Crooked Sound System's Dave spinning real vinyl + Matty on Serato and Groovebox is an ideal combinaton for spontaneous IDM (observation not plug cos Greenroom is downundaground).

Dood, Serato has been out for what 5 years before Tractor Scratch came out. Might explain that a bit. They are both awesome imo.

I am using Torq. Highly recommended for the Skint crew. I use it for everything. I still use vinyl too though.
native instruments (who make the traktor software) made the software for final scratch until they decided they didn't like what Stanton was doing somewhere. I have a friend who worked either for or with NI on the traktor/fs project. Traktor was first  Rane just made the idea more stable for the same money so it took off. I've used both, I prefer Serato. I was ALL ABOUT Torq until I used both. I like serato better. To each his own. I was a vinyl purist for a long time until I started gettin dnb dubs as wavs or mp3s. This path just made sense.

I'm sorry, let me clarify. All of my friends who use software/hardware devices to dj use serato. Most of the "big names" I've seen use serato as well. Now if you'll excuse me everyone I know is going to jump off a bridge, I gotta run

I am with you. I was all vinyl till about 6 months ago. I was deciding between Serato and TS and ended up buying Torq becuase of the lo-cash situation. I would still rather have one of the more expensive systems but Torq works just great so I can't complain.

Yeah TS is the evolution of FS but it's not the same thing by any stretch. Final Snatch get a bad rep from the gen 1 system. I had it, it was unusable. I have used FS2 and it works great.

I seen a post about this in the production forum, saying about certain lap specs. Does this mean certain types of laptop cannot use Serato?

Bought myself Traktor Scratch, and i'm very happy with it.

Talk of instability is utter bullshit, as far as i've experienced.
Plus, the Traktor Scratch hardware (Audio 8 DJ) beats the serato shite hands down.

8 ins and outs, 24bit/96K with 4 phono preamps, a mic input and a headphone out on my desk? yes please.

i had serato at the house for a month or so, now working with FS 1.5.

Serato >>> FS any day of the week.

with any of this technology the ability to branch out and play anything you can find on a digital release is so awesome its not even funny.

if you're rocking 320s on serato or something, the average listener is not going to be able to tell the difference in sound between the mp3 or an actual vinyl record.

At Ruffage last night it only took about half an hour to setup the High Pressure soundsystem, and it took another half hour of just fiddling with plug sockets to stop the fucking buzzing!
welcome to your solution. http://www.radioshack.com/product/index ... age=search i actually have never had to deal with ground loops with my ableton setup, but i carry this with me at all times. i think you might need two to sort serato setups, but at $20 usd, it's an economical solution.

Tangental to that, has anyone tried testing the compatibility between Final Scratch & Serato? ie. Has anyone attempted to plug their Serato laptop into a Scratch Amp, or vice-versa? Just thinking of the hypothetical situation of two DJs turning up with each system, and whether you could avoid the frantic unplugging of decks by just leaving the one Scratch Amp (or whatever's Serato's equivalent is called) in place.
wouldn't work. from what i know the vinyls each use a different kind of signal to send to the amps.
Here, have a free tune:

I'll definitely be getting some when i get a system up and running, none to hand the other night though so I just had to keep trying every plug/socket combination til it had the least buzzing.

The idea of serato is having loads of tunes at your fingertips without bringing a heavy bag of vinyl, so when you've gotta bring a soundcard, laptop, couple of isolators, external hard drive etc etc it starts to lose appeal.

I love serato for home mixing, old housemate had it and i really miss it, it's heavy for the multi genre mixups. Still a bastad to setup for playing out though, in a few years a standard will emerge in clubs and DJs will just have to bring a memory stick along to gigs.

cheers for the advice guys....and takin these comments aboard

" i was planning on getting a rane ttm56...then i thought y not just get ttm57..then i thought if i was to play out...would it not be easier to have the sepaerate serato box instead of lumping the mixer to a club/party, and obviously swapping it...i take it that the serato scratch box i have seen about is whats built into the rane ttm 57....what yall think

maybe buy ttm 56 and the serato scratch live seperate..?"

also need to get a laptop as i only have a tower at mo...so ideally buying ttm 56 and serato separate would suit me both ways i think as i presume the lappy would have to havea good spec, which obviously costs "more" money

cheers
