Zenimax Media owns both iD and Bethesda as of last year. The big news in that Bethesda acquired exclusive publishing for anything on the iD Tech 5 engine.
The big thing is determining a development studio versus a publisher.
Mass Effect 2 was developed by Bioware, but published by Electronic Arts. Same company, bioware, developing Star Wars the Old Republic, but will be published by Lucas Arts.
The quality of a game namely falls on on your developing studio not the publisher.
I know all that. SInce Zenimax now owns id and all of their related IP (tech 5), they have the final say on who gets to use the engine, correct? Couldn't they sell it UE3 if they felt like it?
Yeah technically.... but its yet to see how much Zenimax is going to fuck with iD's development bits. Most studios are very prideful/posessive in their engines, unreal being the exception.
There's a big rumor of a new Source engine that will be revealed with Half Life 3 next year so Zenimax may want to whore it out before Valve shits all over everyones idea of a good engine.
They own the property but i'm gathering iD still has their hooks fairly deep in on the say-so of what goes on with their engine.

They've always done new updates to the engine, but the 'rumor' is that when they pulled portal 2 from this years E3 it was because of the engine and engine related secrets or possible upgrades.
Valve is the golden standard for studios/developers.
i sold this gun thinking it was a useless piece of junk
On a side note, you should check out vault 34 when you get a chance. If your a respectable level head down there and in the security office there is a hench load of ammo and guns, including this bad boy http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/All-American

Make sure when you do the quest That Lucky Old Sun you arm the Archimedes II.
I'm not sure if that goes as far is using it to kill the NCR stationed around the station.
I recall arming it or sending power to it but never used it to kill the NCR around the station as Im partial to them. Now Euclid's C Finder has no charge
