that way you have a cheap interface, but the option to add on more i/o later on
as far as looks ffs people who gives a shit unless it sounds good and runs solid
if the shit is low cost and reliable, good sounding and low latency it can be neon pink with hearts and unicorns on it for all i care

oh and these aren't gonna be cheap wavesolders live breakinger are they? :6:
i will never stoop down to the level of behringer. ever.

expansion idea is actually pretty sweet! perhaps just make it a barebones central device for even cheaper, and on top of that, IOs can be customized and purchased however the customer wants. it always pisses me off when i've got an audio interface with a bunch of shit that i never use (never used s/pdif in my life...). nice one!

i like the usb hub idea as well... obviously it'll raise the price of the whole thing though... shouldn't be too much though if i decide to include it
oh and standard rack/half rack casing size please
do you have the electronics/software know how to undertake all this -w-
yeah i do, my dad's been doing this for decades, he's taught me plenty. i've already started on the schematics for the board, hopefully i can finish revision 1 within a few weeks and get some PCBs printed to test it out.

I just dont understand how you are going to get a low latency. Ideal latency is 6-10 thousandth of a second, youd need a pretty well designed architecture to roll that surely?
yeah, right now i'm looking at using the XMOS XS1-L2. dual core, 16 threaded DSP processor that runs at 800 mips. the thing is KILLER

I only read a few post.. but I've sold my motu 828mk3 and I'm in the market for just a basic little interface..
I'll definitely be up for this!
Best of luck!!

Just one request for me : can you make it UAD plugs-compatible, please ? :4:

I'm actually kind of stoked to see what your going to come up with. I need an interface.
Is it going to be mac compatable, you should almost start with a mac version so you won't have to worry so much about drivers.
Although the exchange rate to CAD and shipping to Canada might put it a little more expensive than an interface I can get here, having something unique and made by hand appeals a lot to me.

On a side note if it were in a sweet wooden enclouser with metal knobs, and with a sweet vacuum tube sticking out the top with the leds for the bitches I would definetly buy one...Although I doubt it could possibly within my price range, even without the tube.

I was thinking something more like this with more knobs and not so fruity steam punk

Mac version won't require drivers; OS X has native usb audio 2.0 support! will literally be plug and play. for windows i'll probably be writing my own unless i can license some high quality, low latency drivers from some company.

heh nope
it's their native dsp technology/code
i doubt they're going to license a cheaper than their own hardware alternative or stand for it being circumvented to run their software

ha timing, i was just looking for an interface -w-

if it was as good as its sounding, with audio in out, midi in/out etc like you said i'd definately consider. tbh I'd rather another dsf user got my money rather than alesis or whatever other company i'd go to otherwise :6:

how many inputs and outpts would be considering to put on for things like audio, midi etc? and the idea for expansion to make the original cheaper is good as well, better than wasting money on unwanted extras.

great idea! :5:
