i doubt the people who actually lost their lives to needless lynchings, or the ones who actually lived through the civil rights movement wanted the generations after them to further perpetuate a divide.
you can't call for equality and be hypocritical at the same time.

Not sure I'm following, are you saying that current African Americans should not be using the word either? If so, then yeah I see your point, and there are loads of African Americans who would agree with you. But not all, which makes it tricky.deadly habit wrote:how so that it's justified?

Race: who woulda thought it'd be complicated?
I also think there's an element of harm, to everyone, if you use that word or make rape jokes or whatever. You never know if someone hears that and thinks 'yeah, it's ok for me to be racist, everyone's ok with it'. It's not just that you might offend someone, it's also that you help reinforce the status quo.noam wrote:but you can be responsible and know that certain things are just DUMB to say to certain people. thats what its about.

Wait, you're from london, and you are calling black people african americans?
===
Have to disagree, niqqa is a really catchy word in of itself, just sonically. It just rolls of the american tongue. So much better than, "dude," or its grandfather, "man."

When the fuck will people realize context precludes the actual word? Words should not be banned or shunned, its bigoted slander that should be targeted.
If you're a grown adult, and any single word in particular offends you this much, kill yourself now. The real world is much harder than that.

Watch This.nowaysj wrote: Funny story: I was in a new client's office, he was Nigerian, the wealthy son of the Nigerian minister who privatized the oil industry in Nigeria. There is a shotgun under his desk because he has a lot of portable valuable merchandise in his office. My business partner, who is Chinese, is with me, and has to take a call. He starts speaking in mandarin, apparently the word for "that" kind of sounds like "niqqa" so he goes on "niqqa this and niqqa that" I'm looking at my clients face get progressively sour with each utterance. I was doing a rapid calculus, at what point are we going to loose this client, at what point is the shotgun going to come out? But we worked it out, we joked about it. It's jokes if everyone keeps their head.

Think this really misses the point tbh, the words not as offensive as the people that would wish to use it in a derogatory context and I don't know why anyone would wish to use it in anotherborrowed wrote:When the fuck will people realize context precludes the actual word?
