Amen... for some reason people always see it in extremes... either it's laughable chainsaw midrange robot YOIYOIYOIs, or it's deep, chilled, meditation music

BULLSHIT

there's tons of "real" dubstep that can be plenty heavy or "filthy" (i fucking hate using that word).... Distance, anybody?
Vivek, Kryptic Minds, Scuba, Headhunter, DJG, Jack Sparrow, JahWan, on and on, far from chill out, far from bro. Yeah.

Abz nailed it. There are plenty of artists that whack you upside the head with a modicum of taste and purpose. Not just whack ppl upside the head with a wall of cliche noise. The whole purpose of dubstep's inception was to get away from other genres that were cranking the knob to 11. To bring something new to the table. To make music that doesn't try so hard to move mountains, but does so anyway by not trying so hard. Dubstep does not have to be delegated to minimal bass music for smoking blunts to in a dark room. Some people don't understand that in order to move forward, you have to move back.

I totally agree. To get back on Skrillex, I have to say, this is where he's completely lacking in my opinion. Sure he has pretty cool sound design (Scatta for one example), but that's where it stops. There's no groove, there's no soul. It certainly doesn't get anyone dancing. It's just noise after a while (although well crafted noise -w- ).

Also on a different note. GTFO with the emo shit. "I want to kill everybody in the world"... really? Reminds me of 02/03 when the emo fad started invading the metal scene at the time. Although everyone in the know knew, to anyone new to metal would always start talking about "Bullet For My Valentine." Then I'd have to explain that no, that isn't really metal and can never be equated with ISIS, Neurosis or Meshuggah, making me sound like a musical elitist. I'd hate to have the electronic music scene end up the same way...

Ok I'm fine with people having differing opinions and I'm not even really that into Skrillex, but to say that it doesn't get anyone dancing is a very ignorant thing to say. I was in a big as club full of dancing people last night to a Datsik + 6blocc (w/ busdriver MCing :h: ) and they dropped a few Skrillex songs and everyone was dancing like crazy. If people didn't dance to Skrillex he certainly wouldn't be one of the more well known names in dance music right now. Either you don't ever go out, or you just close your eyes when Skrillex comes on.

I think that is why it's best to not get too attached or de-attach yourself from the term "dubstep" because it kinda is about whatever is the most popular however unfortunate that may be but it doesn't change the fact that there is still some really great stuff just below the surface. I am starting to enjoy the scene again because people are getting sick of the brostyle. It's kinda nice to hear people say I don't like dubstep but I like what you played, it's a huge compliment even though what I played is more closely related to the original strain than the stuff you normally hear.

In my experience he is right, they don't dance, they do more like what they do at heavy metal shows, bounce around and mosh or whatever. I don't see sweet moves being shown to Skrillex beats sry.

I am starting to realize that the ONE thing I enjoy about brostep is that it's completely blowing up. 99& of people who don't normally listen to dubstep identify it solely with the genre. That gives people who play the lesser known stuff the chance to completely blindside audiences with an experience they've never gotten in a club setting before. Which is a beautiful thing and my absolute favorite aspect of playing out if/when it occurs. Thanks Skrillex!

Yeah that is pretty much what I was saying. In 05 playing dubstep was so much fun because people were digging on something they were familiar with and the same sort of thing happens now because people think they know what dubstep is.

this!!!!

people new to the scene have gone to recognize dubstep by a distinct sound unfortunately, and the part thats great about this, is if your lucky enough to spin on a heavy system, you can totally change things up, play some james blake, mala, or some burial on a banging system and everyone would honestly be blown away, imo more so than hearing skrillex.

Since when did people listening to any form of dubstep or brostep even bust "sweet moves"?

As you can clearly see here, they're quite blatantly dancing..
Do you say zerbaman? Or do you say zebraman?

Yeah, just imagine us people were actually into emo before all the distortion and screams started to invade. Same sort of identity crisis.

ive never heard any skrillex at a dance, could you ever see his name on the line up for dmz or superdubpressure? no. hes not talentless but his stuff is pure unoriginal 'shirts off' wanker music that just makes me want to cry when they invade a rave jumping up and down like mentally ill monkeys on crack pushing each other about and screaming. its the kind of thing you expect in a mosh pit or at a justin bieber concert, not a dubstep night.
