Why do deep heads seem to hate on the hyped stuff so much?!

Personally I've heard a lot of terrible Mala wannabes that have no idea about production other than opening up reason, laying a kick n snare down n a sub n some gay flute! Swings both ways!

i read that one earlier and had a little chuckle. probably more so because I remember someone trying to pass of a couple of Mala dubs as their own tunes on a myspace player a couple years or so ago. lol

1. Dubstep starts up, generally positive vibes all around(generated by the excitement from innovation)

2. Dubstep branches out and starts to incorporate different styles/moods/sounds

3. Sub-Genres are created from this experimentation

4. Original positive vibes are comprimised by polarized opinions of said experimentation

5. People reminisce about the past state/complain about the present state

6. People new to dubstep see the polarization and may not feel as compelled to explore all sides of the genre

The ironic part to me, is that those more inclined for the deep stuff seem generally angry by the aggressive/"brostep" side. Normally I'd say "listen to some Mala and chill the fuck out", but unfortunately, I think that's exactly what exacerbates the problem.

Stuff like Distance, Tunnidge, Kromestar, Coki, Commodo, Cyrus, Horsepower, Goth Trad
has hype qualities, has deep qualities
I just try to go with what I like, which can be a lot of things

personally, i don't consider myself a hater. i just love music, and i hate to see crappy versions of it pawned as the real shit . im not gonna sit here and not call it like it is. 99 and a half percent of brostep has the same drum patter in every single song. it's laughable

I find that it's rather fitting the op called it "hyped stuff". Since, well, it's exactly that. People hype it up does not equal to it being good... or in some cases not necessarily bad. You can hype up good music but the measurement ends up being what gets played at the clubs/shows is hyped then the filth certainly fits that rather well. Hyping something up means there's supposedly high enough energy to get you going; the deep side of things is not going to have that as it's soul aim.

This concept makes me laugh. Before this scene had a name, the tunes had various drum patterns and breaks, then it was like it became outlawed. People wanted it to be more rigid, everyone dropped 2 step and syncopated beats for half step, before long the old values became extinct making way for this new formula. I wonder if there were to be a resurgence of breakstep, would people embrace it or snub it?

Dutty Switch made a stellar point which has become apparent in this thread; those that got into the scene at a later point miss out on a lot and in most cases wont do the 'homework'. For instance, and this may shock a lot of people, but dubstep as a whole is not meditative music, it is an important aspect but it is by no means the crux of the sound.

I personally never felt like meditating when i heard "Said the Spider"

I'm glad to see this subject actually being discussed and not turning into a load of shite like what usually happens. When I read these kind of threads it comes across like people just wanting to have an argument more than anything.

I agree with this totally. The main reason I got into this kind of sound was that I liked the tempo and the focus on bass. All thats happened in recent years is that a lot more music is being produced so Im happy

Although i can understand why people who have been into a genre of music since the start would hate on newer/modern sounding stuff (filth etc). I can't see why they hate it with such a passion

Its only like any other music scene. EG House music today sounds nothing like house music on that late 80's/early 90's, Yet it is still house music.
Just because new sounds & influences are incorperated doesnt mean that it changes what style of music it is. I understand the whole bass culture of dubstep & how the majority of "Dubstep" today lacks prominant subs, but i am still happy to call it dubstep, just to avoid inventing yet another subgenre.

I feel that in some cases jealousy is to blame. For instance a lot of the people who make "Filth" are getting more bookings than the people who make the music which we know as & love to call dubstep (DMZ/Tectonic etc)
Im not saying that i prefer either side of the genre, I like & play music from all ends of the dubstep spectrum. In fact i am happy that it has branced out so far. This is one of the widest spread genres of music of the last 10 years as far as influence incorperation goes & i for one am extremely happy to be part of it.
