I lean towards the tearout side but I consider myself to reside sort of in the middle.

Just on a quick side note a song I love that straddles a good line for me is this:
It has a sort of mellow intro with a nice pad and then it brings the filthy abrasive kinda sound which I like too but doesn't feel like it's just trying to cram more and more noise into it. It's a gritty sound but maintains a kind of airy feel and some space.
Anyway yeah this thread rules. It's so nice to see some good discussion and civility and common ground on here. A+ OP.
EDIT: Also Addison Groove - Footcrab just came on and it reminded me how much I love it.
