Future garage and now future jungle?!
Re: Future garage and now future jungle?!
Lucas and Mulder are bang on the money .... it is a pain all these sub-genres ive taken to referring to everything as either dubstep (halfstep) or breakbeat (everything else with a break) when doing promo form my show or mix's saves all the fucking about. otherwise my show info would read something like.....
dubstep/breakstep/breakbeat/j-tek/downtempo/d&b/glitch-hop/jungle -
I grow up with the whole jungle/rave scene and that is what influences me & its was the open mindedness that attracted me to it all in the first place. seems silly to get to worried about what something is called so long as it does the business on a system.
i reckon the fresh ting is pretty sick but always preferred more of a dub/reggae flavor with my jungle music future or not

Re: Future garage and now future jungle?!
Totally agree with the point your making Lee.
But the point is some sort of name really is needed to unite J-Tek ,Nu Jungle ,Breakstep ,140 Jungle , Jungle Breaks ,Hardcore Breaks ect ect....
AND if this is a name that is being pushed to the mainstream , why not just run with it....we all know the actuall style of music is nothing new but is it really a massive problem if this is how they want to market the styles that have been made for years to a bigger market who know nothing about the past ?

Re: Future garage and now future jungle?!
imo its just a passing fad and will disappear after this year with a few novelty tracks coming out every now and then. The sound is too shallow for starters. Listen to the fresh ep, mag man, skream, chase and status, danny byrd etc its ALWAYS a 140bpm amen chopped up. BORRRRRRIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGGGG........................
It all sounds the same and people wet their knickers over it. Now listen to some proper 93 stuff and you'll see why people still LOVE it in 2011. Genres will always nod to old music but you cant revive old music. There will be something new and fresh come along like the minimal dnb, dubstep, crack house, grime etc as the kids decide what goes not us old fogeys.

Re: Future garage and now future jungle?!
good music, terrible name. any genre with the word future in it should be discarded and ignored en masse.
if its so future how come we're listening to it now? it sure as hell isn't future proof.
a lot of breaks heads are on this 140 jungle tip. its nice to hear the old samples wheeled out again and some fresh arrangements. its just rave music really innit.

Re: Future garage and now future jungle?!
two years ago all my tunes where labeled "breakstep" on my soundcloud. about 4months ago I all labeled them "140jungle" and now ...indeed i've changed them to "future-jungle"
http://www.soundcloud.com/bojcot-selectah
I dont really like the name.. but hey its the name I've seen floating by the most. I think lucas puts it best... its hard to explain to people what kind of sound you are making without giving it a name.. Two years ago @ outlook festival on Pag, I tried explaining Remarc through "dubstep with breaks" examples what kind of sound i was making. All i got from him was a frown. When i said "ok its basically just jungle at140bpm" his face lid up and he asked me who else was making it. I told him there had been a few but intresting artists on that tip. (dubchild, toasty, cluekid,Sully,RSD,darqwan,dj hype,dj zinc,el-b,zed biaz, elemental, and oh ..also "on the end of the list" : skream)
I think 140jungle is a more respectfull term. I doesnt claim being anything new and explains best what it sounds like. Jungle has been turned iside out and has been reinvented in a shitload of different erra's and ways. So claiming 140jungle or future-jungle is something new is like saying a new brand of coffee is a whole new drink alltogether. If we're talking about soundcolour and samplebanks.. uk electronical music hasn't really changed much since the early nineties. YEH ofcourse there has been some BIG innovations but the thing that changed the most has been the tempo. The 140velocity has a mayor place in dance music right now. So i think its only natural that artist look for NOW ways of expressing their creativety. In my own situation, I've been listening to chopped up breaks since i was 14years old. Right now I've got a nice system to make music on... 140is very wel recieved at the moment so why not make the stuff i've always been making in a tempo that can be used in everybody's sets right now. Basically there's nothing future about it.. its about today.

People definitely get too hung up on names.
Also a lot of disrespect for Fresh on here, a guy who has undoubtedly helped shape uk bass music in his day.

Re: Future garage and now future jungle?!
I've heard quite a few tracks in the Future Jungle and Hardcore Breaks genre. I did get into some of them but not many. Basically it music made in 2011 that sounds like its been made back in the 90's. I think some of it sounds dated already. We've been there done that. But i suppose sometimes to move foward you got to take a step back
Re: Future garage and now future jungle?!
Shame about that Fresh EP. Interesting ideas but the engineering makes the waveform look like Frankenstein's head. The term Future ____ seems like some music journalist jargon. I already feel old enough. I don't need to feel worse when future garage has no more future releases lined up lol. It's one thing if somebody coins the term and lumps you into it. It's a whole other if you specifically set out to make tunes that fit into something like "future jungle/pop/garage/polka. You already got one foot in the grave before the other is on the door. Just make tunes. Let some music journalist that looks like Elvis Costello give everyone a handy term to classify it after.
Re: Future garage and now future jungle?!
This is pretty much exactly how I feel about it. I hear amens in Silkie, Skream, Ramadanman etc. and none of them really do much with it. There's definitely a bit of that jungle vibe, just cos it's the amen, but I haven't heard anybody using it particularly creatively or imaginatively (feel free to correct medj sike wrote:imo its just a passing fad and will disappear after this year with a few novelty tracks coming out every now and then. I have to disagree id say rama is pretty creative with the breaks on this one. loads of automation/reverb/pitch change etc
how much more can you do with a drum break sample
low frequency oscillation perspiration

Re: Future garage and now future jungle?!
So i did an amen tune or two in the 140-jungle fashion. But thats it/all for me. Personally i've alway liked jungle better without an amen. breaks like: "think" "funky drummer" "funky mule" "let a woman" "sweetpea" "apache" "soulpride" "assembly line" "cold sweat" "dont change your love" Do SO MUCH more to a tune in my ears.
the classic AMEN + SAMPLE + REESE + VOCAL-SLICE is really the easy way out. Unless you craft them carefully and chop em up good. But sadly i have to to agree with the majority of posts above (if your not looking for it!!!) you'll find the simple and boring productions mostly.
LOts of respect going out to LUCAS @ top drawer. he's one of the few pushing "music" instead of a hype.
