Re: The most ridiculous comments regarding music production

I've heard some things in my time but the one that tops it all is

"Dubstep is shit"

Because it irks me how people could be so ignorant to think that dubstep is one sound, when it's one of the most expansive genres out there imo. That's why I'm at a loss trying to convert new people to dubstep (because I believe everyone should be a dubstep fan. No really. I do. I think there's literally something for everyone there.) Each to their own and all that but still. I'm at a loss because I don't know what they'll like, and I'm spoilt for choice to what I think they'll like. So many artists and sounds/influences....

tbh i get kind of perturbed but also a teensy bit relieved when one of my aquaintances remarks "dubstep is shit/awful/the same thing over and over/etc.
Like if everyone thought it was terrific, then this scene and myself would not be all that special or unique... i dunno, it also pisses me off bc, well.... its just ignorance, and i guess ears that aren't accustomed to hearing loops unless its rap.

Friend: That's awesome, the intro is a bit long though and why is it so dark, and slow?
Me: The intro is not long, it's 16 bars.. It's slow because dubstep is made in 140 BPM, and that's slower than that dancefloorshit you listened to.
Friend: No dubstep is fast, fast as fuck.
Me: You must be thinking of DnB?
Frined: Oh yeaaah, why don't you make that?
Me: I like dubstep..
Friend: Why is it dark?
Me: :u: :q:
Friend: :6:

Btw, he noes nothing about producing but he thinks he know everything..
haha gold man...gold.
seriously though i hate it when i show my dubsteps to the kids at school and they take the headphones off and walk away before they get past the intro...so impatient :u:
Same, I gave up on the motherfuckers, I'll show them what it's all about at prom. They'll hear my deepshit

For me whenever anyone says that about any genre I give them the ol' roll eyes manoeuvre and move them into the category inside my head labelled "Barely sentient piece of trash". Unless it's a wee kid, in which case they can be forgiven because maybe they haven't learnt the amazing depth to be found in all forms of music yet. But I hate all kids by default anyway.

Nasty creatures. XD

:?

I'm not talking loop library loops. I mean just creating loop-based music

some people really hate looped sequences unless they're hip hop beats underneath rapping
i.e. they hate EDM but enjoy rap

Wait...do you mean to make a pattern an just repeat that? I don't call that looping, but yeah I do that

What i consider to be a 'loop' is when a producer loads snippets of other peoples work and, well...loops them in the song and call it their own. Atleast thats what a loop is in hiphop

^^^ That man speaks the truth.

A lot of the "advice" handed out by a vocal minority around here is pretty ridiculous. In saying that, there are certain posters who redeem those idiots with well written responses.
