would love to have a local record shop though
Leeds and Manchester are not that far from Sheffield, at all. I take trips up to BM specifically a few times a year just because the experience and the day out with a few mates is worth it!
might have to have a trip then :)

This Topic Smacks of Vinyl Elitism.

"I have X amount of vinyl and you guys that use cd's or buy mp3's are foolish" basically sums up the last couple of posts
i really don't know where you're getting that from tbh

people get so defensive and start spouting stupid arguments like this. someone doesn't like skrillex so they're an elitist... they don't like mp3s so they're an elitist... people want wavs over mp3 so they're an elitist... my dad's bigger than yours so i'm an elitist..... bla bla bla bla bla bla

maybe people just like different things? :u:

so fucking boring seeing virtually every decent discussion boiling down to elitist vs hater arguments
How can you not see it? The title of the thread is provocative in itself.
Im not being totally defensive, i just personaly think the thread stinks of the notion that if you have vinyl somehow you love music more or generally are more part of the scene than others and that if you have Mp3's of the same music its not the same
Celebrating vinyl ownership is great, im all for it because its a great medium and personally i dont want dubplate culture to die.
I like to think that everyone is entitled to their opinion and i was just giving mine, i wasnt trying to negate the fact it was an interesting topic.
Maybe the tone of your post was the issue?

I'm sorry but I dont get where you’re getting this elitist tone from, its a valid point - I have got vinyl, wtf will I have in 10 years seeing as most if not all music sales these days are digital?! Its not that hard to understand... As for provocative titles I'm pretty sure no one else took it that way, I'm not saying hey check out how big a man I am cos I own records lol! I'm genuinely asking people’s opinions mostly cos I'm sat at work bored in front a pc and just wanted a discussion about it, whats wrong with that?

It does seem like some who only buy mp3's seem to have this bee in their bonnet about not being as much of a dj as someone with a record which to me is fucking stupid. I only play mp3's these days just like pretty much everyone else! I'm sorry if you feel not buying records means you any less of a Dubstep dj/fan...

Now this on the otherhand.
Its a sort of musical napoleon syndrome haha.
I do have this problem but i dont think it helps that some vinyl only dj's seem too look down on cd users, i've had quite a bit of shit over it.
Anyway, Like i said... took the whole tone of the topic wrong, so yeah i was being an idiot in my other posts. my bad.

yeh its definitely a confusing future we have in front of us.
I have no background in vinyls, tables, or DJing at all but i just love culture, and art, and good DJing and hobbies and passions and that whole ball of wax ( )

but as a music fan/computer geek i'm of the opinion that a flawlessly organized, .wav ONLY (or comparable, i'm on the fence about 320) tremendous collection on a nice hard drive is something to cherish and marvel at almost as much as a great record collection.

Also, regarding backups... well digi is very straightforward, but as far as saving the tunes you've only got on vinyl, maybe a rip from your turntable at 96kHz and archived as 16bit wav's ought to do the trick

could serve the home listening task whilst the plates stay in the gig bag or the crates collecting dust, err... resale/sentimental value

Meh, it's tone of voice on the internet, innit.

If I say "I've got a Lambourghini, what are you driving?" I could mean "I've got a lambourghini when all you bottom-feeders are in vaxhaul novas so suck it" or I could be inviting people to post pictures of their Ferraris...

Anyway, yeah, I can listen to the latest releases at work or on the train, what do you do? :P

Mp3s, Vinyl, CDs, whatever, it's a means to an end. I have no sentimental attachment to vinyl and 320 mp3s are more useful and convenient to me in every way. I keep backups in numerous places and tbh i feel that having 3 digital copies of your tunes in different places is more secure than just having only copy on vinyl that can be scratched at any time.

I fucking hate that attitude, its not about the format you use to mix its how you mix in the first place, selection etc.
I could understand it if i was playing some shoddy Youtube rip like a wasteman, but back then i was playing 320's
Nowdays its Wavs and i still get it.
If i get that now i just ignore it, play a good set and forget about it.

Back to the Original topic kinda.
I have a collection of vinyl that i'll never play i just have them to own them, to own a piece of history from the music i love, and since some of these records are limited presses People seem to think its wierd that i dont play them.
Does anyone else think its odd?
Im not really sitting on them for the resale value, just cos i love the music.

dude some people sit on star wars and GI joes in the boxes and never ever play with them OR sell them just cuz they like havin 'em.
What you doing with wax is hardly "odd".

My thing is guitars.. 'cept the ones i'm after are more like 5 to 10 grand, not 5-10 bucks. so i just daydream about em.

mmmm vinyl....Been collecting records for the last 10 years, and no plan on changing anything anytime soon. :W:

Played out a couple months ago on a large system, and that's when it hit me that there really is a noticeable difference in the sound. Without a question it puts out a more full and warm sound, and this isn't me being some audiophile snob or whatever...with so many people switching over to digital over the last 6 years or so, I've become so accustomed to hearing music played out through a digital medium, that when all vinyl is played I can hear a definite difference. :)

Was talking to a DJ and I was saying how I would like to mix in the future and when I do use vinyl. He said that was stupid so I asked him how he got his music and he said he uses a youtube converter to get all his music for DJing :6:

I am a big CD fan, love the feeling of getting a new CD and listening to it form start to finish. Being able to hold it in my hands and look at the booklet, but I would love to collect vinyl. I always seem to look through he vinyl section now when I go into music stores, I just love looking at the art work and how heavy the weight of it is compared to a CD, makes you feel like you're buying something special.

VINYL NEVER DIE !
It's about dropping a track at the wrong speed, and it sounding better than the real thing.

I'm 15 years old and I buy vinyl all the time. I've built quite a nice collection over the past 3 years. The last 12'' I bought was the new Kode9 and Spaceape two days ago. I really just like having an actual product in my hands (and I don't even DJ). I also buy CD's every now and then. It's quite sad a lot of people my age look at me funny when I tell them I'm actually spending my money on music. To be honest I do download albums illegally every now and then, but I try to actually buy as much as possible on vinyl or CD (not only dubstep but also other genres)
