"dubstep, but not that filthy wob wob wob shit like skrillex that you are obviously now thinking of... i like actual dubstep, you know, with bass in it"

I once ended up having an argument in the pub with a "dubstep" dj who seemed entirely unable to grasp the fact that there is anything other than filth in the world

"I'm into dubstep but not so much the filthy wobbly stuff it all sounds the same to me"
"dubstep is filthy wobbly stuff"
"no i like the proper deep, dark and moody stuff"
"yeah mate dubstep's pure filth"
"well no it isn't, that's kinda the point im trying to make"
"yeah mate dutty wobs"
"you started in DnB didn't you?"
"yeah"
"there's a surprise"

I usually just respond with Electronic Dance Music (because it encompasses my love for french electro, dnb, fidget, etc)

But if I'm feelin' cocky I'll say "I MAKE BROSTEP, BITCH"

I just say I like anything that sounds good to my ear, from classical composes like chopin to reggae to old school hip hop to to indie to jazz to older dubstep to new filthy dubstep. And while I agree with you being tired of the constant need to be filthier and filthier, and a lot of the new producers coming up sound like shit ,it's undeniable that A, skrillex's tunes get most dance floors more jumping than skreams older stuff (which I believe is one of the reasons is so popular, after all it is electronic DANCE music) and B, all personal feelings aside (I don't particularly like most of his stuff), he is incredibly talented. That being said I'm a hip hop kid. To me it doesn't get any better than listening to some old wu-tang or mobb deep or gangstarr. RIP GURU.

"i like it deep, with a sense of impending dread..."
we monitor many frequencies. we listen always. came a voice, out of the babel of tongues, speaking to us. it played us a mighty dub…

My standard response is usually "dance music".

This response answers 90% of most questions, and will usually move the conversation onto something else. If the person I am speaking to is so inclined, they can ask "Yeah, but what KIND of dance music?", then we I can assume they've probably already heard of Dubstep and can expand on my previous answer.
