ok then. Keep calling your genre dubstep and keep kicking the shit out of everybody who comes on here to talk about "electro house" because they don't know any better. Good luck not looking like a pack of arrogant and bitter know it alls from the outside :4:
Maccaveli wrote: Are you implying that bass drops are something exclusive to dubstep? Drum & bass/jungle has been using the term 'bass drop' since the early 90s, similar thing with house, techno, trance etc. although I couldn't give you dates there.

Speaking of D&B, its had LFO in it for years, therefore drum & bass = dubstep? (=Burial=Loefah=Funtcase=DJ Wanka?)
I realise they aren't exclusive to one genre. I think bass drops and LFO modulation are characteristics of dubstep tracks though. That is what the tracks people like to discuss on these forums and the stuff they can't stop whining about do have in common. The largest characteristic missing from the "dubstep" stuff I enjoy is the dark/grimey feel :? it's replaced by an in your face and over the top feel which some people are never going to appreciate because it isn't subtle enough to be "artistic". I hate how some people find it "fashionable" to talk about how they can appreciate artistic qualities in something extremely subtle. I mean, good for them, their points are most likely valid. But, these qualities can also exist in the "over the top" content. I find skrillex/zomboy pour their souls into their mixes manipulating different sound frequencies to control musical tension on a new level. Other people say they make random noises. Even worse some people talk about how "easy" it is for anybody to make, but never do anything to prove it.

No, you just don't get it dude. I'm not just dissing brostep here or something, I like some tunes here and there. I don't even hate Skrillex (6/10 at best). The issue here is that you're calling something dubstep when it simply isn't dubstep. This is not up for debate, it isn't a matter of opinion. The song isn't even necessarily a bad song, its just not dubstep and shouldn't be advertised as such.

And as for assuming that everyone here hates in-your-face tunes, I think you'll find a lot of love for this tune on DSF:

Not much subtlety there, just plenty of face-melting. Us 'arrogant, closed-minded, bitter, over-protective hipsters' still love it though. You tell us to stop looking at things in black and white, but that's exactly what you're doing.

So basically, the issue here is not that you like brostep. Like what you want, its no one's place to tell you you can't. But that tune isn't dubstep, and it never will be. This isn't arrogant at all, its just a case of refusing to stand for ignorance. If you can't understand what I've just told you (for the third time), then I just... nup, I give up. Its not me its you.

tbh I am perfectly happy for this forum to look like knobheads to all the brostep lovers who come along. Would improve the forum if we could put them off

I'm sorry Wildfuckings

allow you the joys of proppa dubstep.
Please,

Already covered. I realise the lack of accuracy regarding genres but most (outside of these forums) believe it is dubstep thanks to mainstream media and, call me a sheep, but I decided to go with the flow so that they ("electro house" enthusiasts) can find me. Does that not justify what I am doing? Also, you might not have a problem with my musical tastes and be open minded (and props, I respect this) but many here DO so stop sticking up for them if you don't believe in it. They get rude and have zero tolerance for petty ignorances regarding "fine details" of the dubstep genre which they are overly sensitive about. It just as well be a case of "you weren't listening to our genre back in the early 2000's so get off our forum". Prior to coming here this is the full extent of my background:

1. I find skrillex and some other artists on YouTube
2. I saw "dubstep" all over their tags
3. I decide to put the songs in guitar hero
4. I went to a "dubstep" forum to advertise my work
5. I get loads of shit

At what point was I required to wikipedia/do extensive research on music genres in order to anticipate this reaction?

I went off on a tangent there. I mean't to explain my appreciation for music people kept telling me was "shit" in an attempt to come across as someone more educated than "I like the robot noises and loud bass" or whatever. (remember what you said about how it's no ones place to tell me what to like? does judging people based on what they like not go hand in hand with this?). I did not mean to say that in an assumptive context. Looking back at it now I can see the hypocrisy and I am sorry for that. What doesn't change though is the fact that certain terms/artists are forbidden on these forums, based on a lack of open mindedness and a zero tolerance policy for "ignorant" people like myself (who no doubt sign up on the forums every 10 minutes.)

"This isn't arrogant at all, its just a case of refusing to stand for ignorance" I agree completely. But what about the barrage of "face palms" and the like I received from other members you are standing up for? What about the amount of people who keep saying "the mainstream shit you listen to" in 10,000 iterations? That doesn't come across as anything but arrogant to me.

"that tune isn't dubstep, and it never will be" well check out "dubstep guns" video on YouTube. That is one of the main tracks featured in the video which currently has over 4 million views. The producers of the track (Klaypex) advertise their music as dubstep. I also understand that they advertised their own productions on these forums only to find themselves in the same argument I'm in. From my perspective it just seems like a few "dubstep" fans from it's underground days fighting with millions of electro house fans who like to call their music "dubstep" as well. Hell, dubstep rolls off the tongue a lot better than "electro house" it was always going to catch on better. I wish I could come up with another case study where something like this has happened.

Metaphorically speaking:
a small town invent a special coating for chicken and call it Kentucky Fried Chicken. It never gets out there but the town people love it. Several years on Colonel Sanders takes the recipe, adds his mix of herbs and spices to make it 1000 times more popular. He keeps the name Kentucky Fried Chicken and becomes famous. The town people get angry, with good reason too, but fuck all can be done about it that bastard with the moustache is worshipped all around the world. (Substitute Colonel Sanders for Skrillex and substitute chicken for, um... music)

16 posts. 15 of them being in this thread. 1 being in a Skrillex thread, defending your "hero". You don't contribute to the forum other than posts to benefit your thread, and expect us to change to your liking. Your not wanted here, and unless you lighten up on the amount of hate brostep gets, you will not be wanted here.

what are you expecting to gain from this thread? Clearly no one here is going to suddenly go 'o your right people who like mid range screeches are what we want on a forum that we frequent.'.
Would be far better to have two seperate forums tbh. Then both sets of people could happily discuss the music they like without getting annoyed by the other set.

Definitely not blaming you for anything

'I saw "dubstep" all over their tags', that's basically the problem here.

OP clearly doesn't actually know anything about any kind of music or care about music at all.

If you're using youtube tags as your only source of musical knowledge you just don't give a fuck and should give up.

i bet its such a surprise to OP that the dubstepforum would be more invested in what actually fucking is dubstep than people on youtube would be. dont expect us to be as ignorant as the tags on youtube. :u:

This is the voice of your forum and it's the only thing I have been debating. If you think that it is ok then lets stop the discussion right here because I am never going to win

why are you trying to "win" anything on an internet forum? yes a lot of people are absolute pricks on here. no we don't like brostep. If you want to chill and talk brostep this is not the place for you, that should be pretty clear by now. Not trying to be a dick or anything.
