Lone Wolf is pretty good. One of the few people still pushing that industrial/metal influenced dubstep sound imo.kentnz wrote:Mick Harris is awesome. A somebody has already mentioned a Q&A wouldn't go down very well. He types in CAPITALS on the net and just rants and raves basically. When Stealth came out I listened to it every night whilst going to sleep for months on end. That album made me seek out more bass orientated music and plunge into dubstep.
Also when Loefah was here a few years ago I was telling him that he should collaborate with Scorn. He just patted me on the shoulder and said "it's alright bruv, it's alright" One explanation could be that all the pills I had taken that night turned out to be ketamine and what came out of my mouth would have been more along the lines of "AGDFGFHMNVNJNFJNJCBHVGDCD!!!!" Embarrassing stuff.
Also on the topic of Techno Animal
Lone Wolf drops some Scorn into his sets sometimes too.

Nothing is dark anymore.
Scorn encapsulates the term Dark & Hard all in one.
Yeah Vex'd defintly got some inspiration from scorn, the first album absolutely sounds like michael's stuff - Cloudseed on the other side is (imho) more unique, (altought some of the raw stuff remains in most of the tracks) they really pursued their own style.
I like scorn.. but sometimes (in his latest 2 albums: Refuse;Start Fires and Stealth) the sound design gets a bit repetitive, like you know, distortion, more distortion, distorted bass, distorted kick, 1-3 Kick-Snare pattern, feedback, incidentals all along the tracks.. dont get me wrong - I would kill to have Michael abilities with distortion but sometimes I just feel some of his songs share a lot in common within these albums.. But then, how could you NOT do that while writing an album?
Re: Loving the sounds of Scorn....
Mick Harris is a total dick. I don't buy music from dicks any more. It's a principal thing.
I got most of his stuff up to about Stealth (his sound has gotten stale imho, some live drums don't change that for me.).
Yes, he's made some incredibly weighty stuff. But I can not look past his figure. He's profited well from the "dubstep" scene, yet he waste no opportunity spreading a message of hate regarding dubstep and everything surrounding it. Yet, despite of all his hate and contempt for the scene, he didn't feel too bothere with appearing on Mary Ann Hobbs show, releasing on dubstep labels and even performing nights with other dubstep artists. His hate addressed towards the likes of Mala, The Bug, Vex'd (both of 'em) and pretty much London in its entirety comes a cross as infantile and jealous.
He might have made some good music, I think he's a total dick who has no right to be complaining about things he refused to be a part of right from the start. Hey if you've got an ethos, that's fine. But then don't expect me to sympathise when you did earn money off the back of the same people you have these profound hatred for: that's called hypocrisy.

Haha, got any interviews? I've never heard about his dubstep rants.joeki wrote:Mick Harris is a total dick. I don't buy music from dicks any more. It's a principal thing.

I've heard him on MAH's show a few times, even called him a dubstep pioneer or something like that. As for releases on dubstep labels, I think Combat Records is the only one.
He's probably just pissed & bitter 'cause kids like this sound but never heard of him, even though he did it years before it got popular. Although I don't get it. His stuff isn't really dubstep and he doesn't have much of an influence on the scene.

yeah he's a bit of a dick but if you listen to his music- i doubt a saint could write this stuff. i don't know if that's an excuse to be an internet warrior and talk shit but i personally don't listen to music for the people behind it...i just think its kind of funny :3

Re: Loving the sounds of Scorn....
Brings back memories. Bumpin' Napalm Death at the age of 15 and really getting into Scorn after. Back then it really reminded of DJ Shadow.
That tune is still one of my favorites to mix with drum & bass.
