Re: so what is the whole purpose
It's something about the whole bullshit of how the government favors the rich and big business or something like thatand they claim to represent the bottom 99% of the economy, etcetera etcetera.. I did a quick search on them, but I couldn't be bothered to actually delve into their motives, I'm too tired.
edit: how the fuck did you manage to loose friends on facebook over this??? Do people really care that much about this whole thing?

Re: so what is the whole purpose
to show anger at an abstract concept (greed) as far as i can make out.
i've been asking the same question here
http://www.dubstepforum.com/viewtopic.p ... 5&start=40
but no one has an answer there either.
the thing is, when/if it starts up properly, it's going to get hard core.
if people are freaking out to one pepper spray incident and a bit of pushing, not sure how they're going to cope when the batons and bullets start flying (which, this being america, they will).

buncha misguided fools....
a protest in washington would be a whole lot more effective than slightly inconveniencing some suits on their way to work.

Oh c'mon Knell, it's a good fight and it has to start somewhere.

Re: so what is the whole purpose
It did get some good wider recognition, some Americans I know were taken aback by it; they felt encouraged that other people feel that they're bring manipulated and were doing something about it
Apparently a lot of American's problems with inequality are perpetuated by apathy and a feeling of helplessness when really there is an overwhelming majority that would like things done differently!

sorry, you're right, just a little bitter that the fight has lost all of its credibility from the start from lack of planning, falsified images, stupid band rumors, and general messiness.LACE wrote:Oh c'mon Knell, it's a good fight and it has to start somewhere.
Re: so what is the whole purpose
their cause is vague and confusing to even independent minded people. it reminds me of what i learned in advertising class. if your message is vague and too complicated people wont understand or remember your product. you have to stick to one message and hit it hard. a campaign finance reform protest would be a great way to start.knell wrote:buncha misguided fools....

From the article I posted in another thread.

It's just!
Apologies for the second post but I guess it's relevant.
If you want to read more..Yes, of course, we all have very strong differences of opinion on many issues. However, like our Founding Fathers before us, we must put aside our differences and unite to fight a common enemy.
It has now become evident to a critical mass that the Republican and Democratic parties, along with all three branches of our government, have been bought off by a well-organized Economic Elite who are tactically destroying our way of life. The harsh truth is that 99% of the US population no longer has political representation. The US economy, government and tax system are now blatantly rigged against us.
Current statistical societal indicators clearly demonstrate that a strategic attack has been launched and an analysis of current governmental policies prove that conditions for 99% of Americans will continue to deteriorate. The Economic Elite have engineered a financial coup and have brought war to our doorstep. . . and make no mistake, they have launched a war to eliminate the US middle class.
To those who feel I am using extreme rhetoric, I ask you to please take a few minutes of your time to hear me out and research the evidence put forth. The facts are there for the unprejudiced, rational and reasoned mind to absorb. It is the unfortunate reality of our current crisis.
Unless we all unite and organize on common ground, our very way of life and the ideals that our country was founded upon will continue to unravel.
Before exposing exactly who the Economic Elite are, and discussing common sense ways in which we can defeat them, let’s take a look at how much damage they have already caused.

Re: so what is the whole purpose
sure, a protest should make clear demands. but a vague feeling that something is wrong may come first. if this movement can't move on to clear demands, then one under another name might do so. the much increased share of wealth taken by the top 1% is a real issue; though the interests of the other 99% are not homogeneous (e.g. the 2%-5% slice is doing quite nicely, too). but there's not much point in growing the economy if nearly all the benefits go to the richest few percent.
no way, not as the top priority. if the issue is economic, you have to demand something that will help most people's finances.ruckus49 wrote:a campaign finance reform protest would be a great way to start.
Re: so what is the whole purpose
ostensibly its a demand for greater central oversight and control over banking practices, a more egalitarian income & revenue tax system, and control over special interest groups.deadly habit wrote:of this occupy wall street shit?
what's the message and overall goal?
managed to lose facebook friends asking this, but does it have one?
im guessing you're just feigning confusion so you can then complain about the hippies and how its sooo confusing that people want to bring attention to other issues under this banner. get over yourself you fucking child.

if both parties continue to be bought and paid for by industry we stand no chance. its not a glamorous cause, but it is at the very root of our problem in the US. demanding more social welfare is not going to change the system, we have to expose who is keeping these corrupt politicians in office.tyger wrote:no way, not as the top priority. if the issue is economic, you have to demand something that will help most people's finances.ruckus49 wrote:a campaign finance reform protest would be a great way to start.
Re: so what is the whole purpose
i'm not arguing against campaign finance reform, or against demanding lots of things at the same time, just against making that your number 1 demand. because it may not change anything outside the political process itself: the point should be that, if money had less influence on elections, politicians with different policies would be elected - and not just different policies on campaign finance reform: if it's that circular, it's of no relevance to most people.ruckus49 wrote:if both parties continue to be bought and paid for by industry we stand no chance. its not a glamorous cause, but it is at the very root of our problem in the US. demanding more social welfare is not going to change the system, we have to expose who is keeping these corrupt politicians in office.
