Mt Eden are just what the markets want. I mean, their marketing plan (whether intentional or not) was genius, and worked out well. Everyone knows who they are, and had been asking us to bring them for years. Its just all based on hype. I heard as DJ's they weren't bad, but they weren't anything extraordinary.

I wouldn't even say its with the ill-educated...its just the youtube generation/

I mean, think of guys in the dubs section from back in the day. Thats where I heard of Starkey/Taz Buckfaster for the first time; they were some of the first artists I remember hearing about that no one else had. I think the same thing went with Mt Eden. It was just the first chance those kids had to be "hip"

the thing that gets me, is that back here they get built up to be the greatest we have to offer... like everytime theres an ad on the radio it usually talks about how theyve got over 70 million hits, toured the world selling out every venue and that they havent even released anything yet.

thats one of their more recent tunes and it gets raped on the radio here... and i really dont understand why... ITS TERRIBLE!

Is there kids, genuinely, crying out for them then?

If they cancelled a few shows on the trot, would they get vexed like us when dmz got cancelled?

Or is this a completely different world altogether that I don't understand?

Yes, there are kids genuinely crying out to see them. Yes, they would be choked if they cancelled. You would be choked too if you paid 20 bucks for a show, then had it cancelled on you, right?

I don't see how this concept of them being so "big" is so baffling (not directed at you, Clifford). For example, had Distance had all his videos titled as "Distance Dubstep", there is a good chance that he might have had the same results and could have become the biggest name in the genre. Or if (artistwhowasaroundbeforeyoutube) put up some remixes as "Song Y (Dubstep remix)". Mt Eden just happened to be doing the right thing at the right time.

Go to mt eden's official youtube videos and click through a few random pages of their subscribers. Everything you need to know about them is there , and 95% of the punters have no idea that you can buy YT views and subcriptions. 1 million YT views is about $5k now.

i know what you mean, i swear its just come out of nowhere though, everyone had forgotten about them, but if you look into it, they're playing bloody everywhere!!

its just feels like its a seperate thing, is all. which is fair enough.

i told the promoter who booked them to be ashamed. it's disrespect to all the serious producers who actually invest something in their music.

why even bother?

If the promoter doesn't know better do you really want to associate yourself with a promoter like that in the first place?

It sounds like you want to be as popular as Mt Eden and be big on youtube like them so you can get their billing on the flyers? That's pretty shitty IMO.

Just let mainstream idiots be mainstream idiots and stop trying to be a part of them.... that just feels dirty

Why not? Mainstream or not, I think most people are idiots. Especially crowds that participate in exclusivity.
