Re: DUBSTEPFORUM AWARDS 2012 : Voting Started!
Really think Jacques Greene's allezallez mix should have been an option, but Mala's xlr8r will do. Props for the free tunes also

nice job on these awards

Re: DUBSTEPFORUM AWARDS 2012 : Voting Started!
Some great nominees in here. Really looking forward to see the winners.
Didn't expect the dungeon sound to be this big.
I would rather see the ones who are pushing new sounds as winners, but you can't call their music dubstep really...

Re: DUBSTEPFORUM AWARDS 2012 : Voting Started!
At the moment I feel like the standings are completely fucked.
Mindstep winning over MUD!? Mindstep!? I really can't even think of one memorable release they put out. The only thing memorable was that Compilation. Every single MUD release this year has been absolutely huge, shit i'll be listening to 3 years from now.
Also, Best artist, Mala competing with Boddika? I really don't fucking get it. Maybe I'm crazy, but I really don't find that Boddika's music that entertaining to listen to. Never would I purchase a release of his. Yet he's right under Mala?!
Best new producer, Kahn competing with Objekt[/]......did that dude even put anything out this year? I know he had that one release, granted it was pretty big. Kahn as well, had great ass releases this year, Illy was huge, so was Like we used to, but still......I mean...damn, Objekt has twice the votes as Perverse, Killawatt, Lurka, Sleeper, Compa, Thelem....I mean really? Think of all the amazing tunes being dropped by those guys...
I don't mean to be all butt-hurt, and I'm not saying, but the results thus far are really strange, anyone else think so?

Don't know much about the labels but as for Mala and Boddika, I understand people voting on the latter since he's brought a lot of new stuff to the table. His work have inspired a lot of producers to think outside of halftime dubstep and actually look a bit at other genres. Also, 2011 was the year of acid basslines and Boddika was the king of them.
Sure, Objekt may not have put out that many releases this year and his debut was last year, right? Anyhow, all of his work have been totally mindblowing from a technical viewpoint as well as for arrangement of the tracks. Also, he's very unique since there's no other big name in the Uk scene pushing the same sound as him. The dungeon sound is great in it's own, but I feel it isn't new neither original. Youngsta perfected the DJing of it in Dubstep Allstars 2 and Kryptic Minds still has the best tracks on their first album. That said, this is DSF so it's obvious those sounds are going to dominate.

You obviously have one taste and people have another.
The Mindstep vs MUD thing is totally understandable; MUD are putting out top quality music from a certain vibe while Mindstep are picking top quality EPs from a range of 140ish bass music vibes.
Talking about the Best New Producer... Lets be honest; while I think Thelem is one of the best producers around at the moment - they're all pretty similar vibes; they're all making pretty dark halfstep! Thats not everyones thing and a lot of the new categories are over saturated by the dark sound so people are split who to vote for.. Theres no 'one' person carrying that "dungeon" torch theres 6+.
Its basic maths - the rule of averages!
Whoever wins the best new label or best new artist is a big look as it won't be some Brostep what doesn't resemble the heart of the scene so be happy at least a Dubstep artist/label will win!
The ever growing darker/deeper/rootsy side of Dubstep coming back above the bro doesn't seem worth it if you carry the bloody ugly attitude you have; no wonder people are turning its backs on Dubstep despite them appreciating the sound again.

Re: DUBSTEPFORUM AWARDS 2012 : Voting Started!
Exactly, Perverse, Killawatt, Lurka, Sleeper, Compa and Thelem are above average producers, but they're all making waves within the same corner of dubstep. Hence people who are digging the dark vibes right now will be poised to pick their favourite among them.
Objekt on the other hand, is a project in its own space. As are Old Apparatus. So you'll have a bunch of people who can appreciate that and nominees like that will unite a wider range of voters, simply because there aren't 12 to choose from.
I've said it before, I appreciate this whole halftime revival and all, but it was perfected two to three years ago. I'd much rather hear this stuff at parties than bro, and I'm willing to recognise their talent and all, but personally, I'm looking for a new thing each year.
In that respect, Kahn, Objekt or Old Apparatus really deserve the award. As does Boddika (even though I agree strictly speaking, I would have placed him in the 120-140 category.)

Other people think differently to you.
It's a popularity contest that's fun to vote in. Ultimately doesn't mean anything.

Re: DUBSTEPFORUM AWARDS 2012 : Voting Started!
I definitely agree with you in this, but I do feel that Lurka is doing something very unique to most of the other dungeon producers. His percussion is top notch and he doesn't seem to resample the same old growls over and over. I was really just surprised at the amount of people who voted for Mindstep and Boddika, I really didn't know both of those parties had so much recognition and such a large fanbase. I guess it's just because since I'm not a huge Boddika fan, I really haven't been paying attention to his fanbase.legend4ry wrote:Cornbreadddd wrote:At the moment I feel like the standings are completely fucked.

Very good point

@ Joeki: You also made a really good point, I understand where you're coming from and that makes a lot of sense.

UPDATE: Free Track Bundle was updated with 3 new tracks from labels: Deca Rhythm, Cosmic Bridge and Bullet Train.
Re: DUBSTEPFORUM AWARDS 2012 : Voting Started!
The way I see it, Mala wins best producer every year and Boddika should only be in the 120 catagory, so to me the real winner of best producer at least so far is Phaeleh. Come on, as if Phaeleh and VIVEK don't deserve it for the massive 2011s they had?

Re: DUBSTEPFORUM AWARDS 2012 : Voting Started!
I've never seen anyone call Skream, Mala, Loefah or D1 dungeon. Dungeon is definitely distinct from the early halfstep sound. Especially stuff like Ancient Memories and Midnight Request Line on that mix. Dungeon came around with early Kryptic Minds tracks and I think SP:MC's 'Trust Nobody' was possibly even earlier. So not until late 2007/early 2008.q-t wrote:The dungeon sound is great in it's own, but I feel it isn't new neither original.
