Only problem I see is that the same question gets asked again and again and again and again by people too lazy to browse through the first page of threads, search, or even experiment themselves.
Having a single dedicated sound design thread won't really address the problems caused by that class of forum participant.

youre correct again.nowaysj wrote:Only problem I see is that the same question gets asked again and again and again and again by people too lazy to browse through the first page of threads, search, or even experiment themselves.

@ehb, youre also correct. however the only way they will stay and actually contribute to the community , is if they receive the guidance or feel welcomed by the already present community. whether it is leading that person to a similar thread, or giving fresh advice yourself. not trying to be accusatory but flaming the newb or poking fun never helps
maybe the problem is not in the person but in the response the person receives? just a thought
that said i hate the damned threads/laziness just as much but im new enough to producing that i dont have to look very far back to remember myself in some of the same positions.
sorry this response is a bit scatterbrained and my position on how we should address it has been anything but consistent

Re: Should we enforce the How To Make This Sound Thread?
personally I can't stand seeing the "how to make (insert artist here) wobble?" threads. I think all of them should be deleted honestly... now if someone were to make a thread about a certain synth technique and were to point out "it's used here in this tune," well that's a different story. There are too many threads that pop up quickly about designing one specific sound rather than sound design techniques that can be applied in many ways.
Thinking about this now, the "how do I make this sound?" threads are not necessarily unproductive, but I think a lesson needs to be learned in the end. "This artist used a scream distortion this way, scream distortion does A/B/C, and can be used to achieve X/Y/Z."
Just rambling.

I had an idea so in the sticky there should be links for each month jan- dec and what ever month that is that's te threads that's open all the others are locked

Thats exactly what happens in these types of threads, and from then trying to recreate patches.MoonUnit wrote:I think a lesson needs to be learned in the end. "This artist used a scream distortion this way, scream distortion does A/B/C, and can be used to achieve X/Y/Z.

another thing is across the board, acceptance. its sending mixed messages when one thread is locked with a link to another thread where in another identical thread people are giving away patches and answer the OP's questions even tho it wasn't posted in the right place

Just because you cannot differentiate the essence of one waste thread from one fruityful thread does not mean that there is no difference. When enforcing rules, the character of the enforcer is of paramount importance in deciding what will be enforced. They have to make the tough calls, and they do make them, and they make them well.

More like this tbh.

You know, I always knew that in the back of my head, I'd just never brought it forth into consciousness. Now with that on the table... I might have some sort of concern for the character of the enforcer, as it relates to his enforcement duties.
