Re: Oh so you like Dubstep? who am i?
i know it doesn't mean much since they've all been revealed but i knew like 7... i dont exactly look up people on the web to see what they look like but i like to put a name to a face, cant believe a lot of people didnt even get easy ones like cyrus or razor rekta.
a lot of nights out i see the DJs just wandering around the crowd and most people dont even notice they were playing. when i went to see break in plymouth a couple of months ago i was talking to him afterwards and he was dancing at the front with me and my mates and still nobody recognised him. might be a good thing though tbh

But why would I? It doesn't make the music any better, and that's what i'm a fan of - their music not them.llennnn16 wrote:today it is so easy to just look someone up and take 2 seconds to put a face to a name.
Furthermore, I could say i'm a big Scuba fan but i'm not a fan of Paul Rose.
Seen?

looks like 2562 and Cyrus? I don't buy or listen to those dungeon sounds. I can appreciate them in a mix, but I don't go out searching for it, hence never seen most of those guys and don't really care who they are, like thelem and compa etc, to me dungeon isn't an important stretch in dubstep.

I remember going to see Ramadanman at this event which featured him as Pearson Sound. When i got to the waiting line i asked a few people if this was the line for Ramadanman and they told me no it was the line for Pearson Sound sound.scattybeanhead wrote:i know it doesn't mean much since they've all been revealed but i knew like 7... i dont exactly look up people on the web to see what they look like but i like to put a name to a face, cant believe a lot of people didnt even get easy ones like cyrus or razor rekta.

Someone post one of Burial please!

lol i just couldn't care less what they look like, and I actually think the anonymity of it is pretty cool. Thats the relationship a lot of us have with these people. Only identified through their sound. also i love going out to dances and i never really felt it was important to catch a good glimpse of the DJ. I don't even care if i know who's playing when. I just care if i like the sound of it. Make me any less of a fan? maybe in some peoples eyes, but i couldn't care less about them eitherllennnn16 wrote:this bothers quite a lot actually. i can't see how someone would not feel wrong to identify as a fan and not recognize who they are being fans of. It was easy to say that you couldn't know who they were before i suppose in the 90's 80's and such but with the internet age, today it is so easy to just look someone up and take 2 seconds to put a face to a name.Duffman wrote:And yeah the fact that I don't recognise a few small time dubstep producers really doesn't bother me.
There has been many times when i go to an event and i have to google the night before the people on the list playing because i just wouldnt know who is who unless they were announced. One time i spent the whole night thinking i was listening to Mosca only to find out the next morning it was Mayster (whom ive never heard of before but played a really good garage set), that was the whole reason i went that night, to hear Mosca, i was gutted.
That's what i was trying to say here with this post. I wanted to shine a light on the fact that we may know of each release a producer has and every dubplate they own, talk how much we rate their music yet wouldnt be able to notice them if you bumped into the street. Im not saying we should go all pop music and paparazzi them, but knowing who it is that produces the music you love helps.
btw i dont think any of these producers would quality as "small time", not even a vet like Moldy.

What has actually happened to Deapoh? Obviously he was there at the start. I only recognise the guy from Bassweight really tho. I think I gave him a search on here and im sure there was a tune he posted up and there was no response and he threw a full on hissy fitfractal wrote:

what intrigues me in that picture of deapoh, is the maneki neko (welcoming cat) on the side of his decks: how is that not knocked over time and time again?
Re: Oh so you like Dubstep? who am i?
anyone follow Compa on facebook? im sure some of you do. I was browsing my timeline and saw that he had picked up the quickmeme pic i made of him and posted it himself! man that was quick!

Re: Oh so you like Dubstep? who am i?
Maybe they just didn't care? I've been at nights before, seen DJs/Producers there and spoke to them but I'm not gonna go and fawn over them, sometimes they're with friends, etc, and I don't just wanna barge in. I dunno man, I'm just there for the music and to speak to some friends, not on a celebrity spotting hype.llennnn16 wrote:When i was inside i noticed that no one seemed to notice how he was in the crowd passing back and forth from the stage to the dance floor. me, i was sort of star stuck tbh but everyone else looked like they thought he was part of the technical crew.

94% of the music I listen to right now - is anonymous to me
...becasue I listen to dj mixes that I've downloaded without tracklistings...
I'm not one of those oddly psychotic fanboys that races around must knowing all names and faces
everything is called renegade viral syn wave anywho...
well - these days it's distant blue stray dog master dirt 81 baseline reaction dub
There's a lot of stuff in the world - be natural

Re: Oh so you like Dubstep? who am i?
that BM post made 50% sense to me. a vast improvement.
anyway i see cats who are performing all the time in the crowd/venue. i just don't really care all that much until they are actually performing. Then i listen with my ears, and my eyes ignore them.
I'm sure they don't mind.
I also don't really see any of them as a higher status human being than myself. They just spend more time making music and get bookings. They're people. We don't know each other. My clients don't know my face from a crowd just because i filed their TPS report correctly. Also i think my music is good too, but I don't really think it's that big a deal.
