You respawn on the coast with a hand gun and basic backpack plus one or 2 other things.
No map, no supplies, etc.

You essentially restart the game.

I wish more games had perma-death in them.

This is seriously the first time in probably 3 or 4 years I've been really interested in a new game.

Anyone got any specific video card recommendations? What are you guys using? I've checked out the Tom's Hardware 'best for the money' list, but there's too many to choose from. Looking for cheap enough to run it fine, I don't want to play Crysis 4 at 1920x1200. I think all my other specs are fine, I just have an old Geforce 7600GT. PCI-e board.

I have been using a GTX 550 TI with amazing results.
Everything on 1920 at full settings including fxaa injectors or smaa as required.
All nvidia 3d settings optimized.
Ambient occlusion to full.
etc.

Im using an 8800GTS nvidia thing. Bought it probably 3/4 years ago now (and it was second hand off ebay at the time) for somewhere in the region of 30 quid. Does the job absoloutely fine, used to be able to play the original crysis on a tweaked version of ultra high graphics (on 1024x768 resolution lol I only ever played on my projector though and that was its native resolution anyway...)

Anyway, tried the demo of arma on normal graphics setting at 1024x768 and it ran absoloutely smooth. In fact, ill probably try normal at 1280x1024, if that works im moooore than happy. Not the kind of game where im worried about graphics!

But yeah, after a complaint phonecall to talk talk customer service, my download speed has instantly increased from ~95kbps to 120. Pretty weird really, makes me dam suspicious of talk talk in general...i mean, this 100kbps has been the absoloute limit since the day we joined them, and it was at 95 constantly for 10 hours before I made a phonecall, come back and now its sitting at a constant 120. Suspicious as balls...

But yeah, happy enough. Means that by the time I get back from work (hopefully 11 if its not too busy, otherwise probably 1) ill have arma 2 and the arrowhead expansion, and ill be ready to get set up. Not anticipating too many problems thanks to that guide whoever it was posted before, but basically hoping to just get the game set up and maybe have one 20 min run like deadly to test out the controls and just see it working on my computer with my own eyes!

One quick question though, am I right in hearing that you need to have a mic to play this? If so, I might pop down the road now and pick one up ready...

This, game, looks, amazing...

And at this rate, looks like we could have a pretty nifty little ninja crew ready to roll on out! If we got 3/4 of us together we'd be a dam powerhouse!

I wouldn't say you 'need' a mic but would say its pretty essential.

I mean, I dig that...but like, I live in the middle of oxford, and paid for a 10mb connection (of which they said we would only ever get 7mb)

But like, 100kbps is 0.8mb. And I mean, thats the ABSOLOUTE top end. Even at totally off peak times. I dont really get how they can justify that? Broadband seems to be the one product left where youre still allowed to sell people something, then give them something else lol

Apparently theyre running some tests on our line now...will be getting a phonecall back in the next hour or so

oh! And have just bought myself a mic headset thing. Come oooooon work finishing...

yeah i know what you mean, we pay for "20mgb" broadband but it's never going to be anything like that!

Its a trick every ISP does. iirc If its a lower case b like Mb/sec instead of MB/s then that's actually the bandwidth and not the download speed. I have a 10Mb connection with virgin and i get a max dl speed of 1.1MB/s

Yeah, I know its bits vs bytes, or something along those lines. But even so, with the 7mb connection we were told was possible, I would expect to see something along the lines of 8-900kbps or something. Its not like this is some dodgy torrent with 6 seeders or something either, this is direct from steam. Pretty much going to max out your connection speed, and it appears 120 is the current absoloute max. Thats a 1mb connection! Just been mugged off basically. Standard. Virgin were much better, will just take the £50 connection fee hit or whatever it is with them next time...

And gwa, go get that son of a bitch fixed you son of a bitch! I want to walk around slowly in the dark with you...
