They told me years ago that there was only one old guy in germany who could fix the cutter heads on Neumann Lathes and that he only had 1 apprentice - like some kind of mad yoda/luke skywalker situation.

Yes, I have heard this too. Not sure how factual it is, and remember there are at least three kinds of lathes out there..not just Neumann.

SO KEEP CUTTING DUBS AND WEAR THE DAMN TINGS OUT SO IT REMAINS PROFITABLE FOR THESE LATHE REPAIR SHOPS TO STAY IN BUSINESS

Yeah, I have a VCR that can record AUDIO right accross a S-VHS tape too, sounds wicked..

And if they stop making S-VHS cassettes, what do we do with all them ADAT's with track parts on when the media fails????

1,I have spoken to the leading supplier of vinyl to the UK pressing plants and they assure me that there is no shortage or goverment imposed restrictrion on the raw materials used to make the vinyl pellets used to manufacter records.

2,I learned very early on in my career that it is important to have spares,So we have plenty of spares (Murphys law dictates that Anything that can go wrong probably will and at the most inconvienient time).

3,The old boy in Germany that someone referred to sadly passed away about eighteen months ago.

4,There are lots of other people who can repair Neumann lathes and the cutting heads.(Because i do not have a life i read the service manuals and any other lierature i can get my hands on in my spare time).

5,Most vinyl presses actually work better with a small percentage of regrind(Recycled records) and whilst we are on the subject of presses there are plenty of engineers who can service these.

So do not worry vinyl has got a long time left.
