Uploaded a new FKOF free tonight as well. Interesting tune from Ioqe!
Soundcloud

Korrupt's review of ioqe's 'Something Has Changed':
"Some amazingly layered pads arise slowly from the depths of the mix, radiating energy and causing goosebumps to set in immediately. The background samples are splendid; the crackles in the background for example give the track an organic and raw feel. It's a great way of Ioqe building up towards the first drop – even more so by the use of the intense piano keys with the low-end flowing with a precious pace.

"The drop is immense, all elements flow freely around the solid basis. A kick and snare work perfectly together, both hitting hard leaving a serious impression on the listener. The minimal approach on the percussion is flawless, one of Ioqe’s signatures. The change in sound is an subtle move; from emotional to haunting dark soundscapes that take over the mind easily. Sharp-edged drum patterns also enhance the impact of the tune significantly.

"The delayed hits in the background are very hypnotising and continue to transform, giving the tune much more character than it had to start with. After the switch-up in drum patterns, the vibe changes again giving the listener something to chew on. Ultimately, Ioqe succeeds yet again with another of his forward-thinking productions... Ioqe is a very underrated producer you all should be keeping an eye on in 2013!"

Second FKOF free of the week, this one from Archetype:
Soundcloud

Korrupt's review:
“The track opens with Martin Sheen saying 'Saigon', a sample that comes through the mix immediately. Archetype implements some other interesting samples – hinting at pace, as if something is on the move. Ghouly sounds enter the mix giving the intro a mystical vibe! The percussive elements surface before the drop sound serious...

“The first drop is heavy, with the nicely layered kick coming forward in the mix. There's no real snare involved in the mix, giving the percussion in the high-end to develop and leave serious damage on the listener. The low-end comes forward nicely, with straight pressure hitting the listener’s eardrums (while the mid-end growls try and infiltrate). The elements sound very intimidating; haunting the listener the whole time. More percussive elements fade into the mix while the drum patterns stay quite the same until the listener hit the break.

“Archetype implements panning on the high sounds in the break, with the Apocalypse Now sample returning and developing. The percussion pattern fades in and out of the mix until the break ends and the listener gets sucked right into the second drop. The second drop sounds hypnotising, mostly through the repetitive drum patterns and alarm-type sounds hitting the listener. Although more progression would be welcome, this is one of those tracks the listener won't forget easily – it gets stuck in the mind like it's supposed to!”

Evening all, hope it's been a good weekend.

Two new uploads today, a 'FKOF EP' from Wheelton:
Soundcloud

Korrupt's review of 'Twisted':
http://soundcloud.com/fatkidonfire/whee ... -fkof-free
“Dynamic piano keys set the mood of this track with support from a synth that emerges and rolls through the mix. The listener’s warned about impending danger via an evil pad right before the first drop.

“The drop is heavy. Well characterized drum patterns consist of a pounding kick and an aggressive snare that twists the listener immediately. Along with the deep and heavy-hitting low-end, Wheelton really stirs up the mix with controlled morphing growls which leave deep cuts in the listener’s mind. The mid-ranges sound full and complex, with panning adding weight to ‘Twisted’. Minimal yet organic-sounding are added to the mix, with the elements continue to roll together without an end in sight...

“While the break sounds similar to the intro, the growls seem to have developed to another level. The second drop is wicked, where an intense drum pattern leads in while the growls re-emerge and perform an attack on the listener again! The tune ends solidly, with the growls and pads fading away slowly. Wheelton shows he's back with more heavy duty rollers that will cause serious damage on the dancefloor!”

Korrupt's review of 'Horizon':
http://soundcloud.com/fatkidonfire/whee ... -fkof-free
“Emotive pads, along with a contagious drum pattern, open ‘Horizon’. The keys send out a powerful message through an increase in intensity along the way, slowly fading out to take the listener on a journey full of serious surprises – almost sounding acidic...

“The aforementioned pads play an important role, setting a powerful vibe that the listener can’t easily forget. The tribal-sounding percussion adds to this, continuing to return into the mix without falling behind. When the first drop hits, the listener gets sucked into this amazing roller that's up to immediately up to speed. While the stabs could remind the listener of Biome's style, Wheelton gives them a twist of his own with great success. The deep and 'holy' choirs cutting through the mix with a change in drum pattern is a wicked change of sound; this is definitely one of Wheelton's signature techniques.

“Mind-blowing keys, with a mesmerizing feel, come in – building up to an intense climax towards the second drop of the tune. All this energy comes out, with another set of different drum patterns hitting the mix. It’s amazing how the intense key pattern get its own 'solo' right at the end of ‘Horizon’, which mystically disappears but leaving the other elements behind. As the listener reaches the ‘Horizon’, this tune will definitely give people an immense burst of energy on the dancefloor – or anywhere else!”

**Next upload will be MIG x FKOF #142 - should be up Monday/ Tuesday. 300th SoundCloud upload as well; it's a special one!**

Also just seen that people have been nominating FKOF for blog of the year in the DSF Awards this year, thank you to each and every one of you who does. Would be an honour to get that nomination, let alone win it! So very much appreciated for the support :)

New FKOF free download from Zha:
Soundcloud

Korrupt's review:
"'Usual Suspects' opens with a hypnotising percussive hit that sets the overall tone of the track. The samples from Kevin Spacey's character in 'The Usual Suspects' are well implemented right before the first drop.

"While the drop is heavy with a fat low-end below the mix, the minimalistic percussion sets a strange yet interesting pace. The repetition of certain elements gives the track some strength, although other listeners may find them a little repetitive. The kick comes into the mix really well, heavy hitting with a strange-sounding clave, which is used as a snare. The out of tune synth enhances the mood that Zha is trying to create! Another strength of the track are the breaks implemented while the voice samples telling a story fade back into the track – great timing.

"The message about God and the Devil keeps haunting the listener while changes in bassline patterns give a twisted perspective. The 'second drop' occurs with an extended yet very minimalistic percussive patterning. This continues, with the Kevin Spacey samples returning; Zha making sure you’ll catch the actual drift of the tune!

"An interesting production which gets stuck in your head for a while, and that’s what Zha is after."

Bit of a different one this one. ZHA Music hit me up at the end of November after hitting a bit of a wall with his productions. He wanted to build a grime/ garage track and after we chatted about it, he said: "I'm going to watch a load of films and make a track to fit the mood of the film whilst sampling elements such as sounds to create the drums and vocal snippets."

'Usual Suspects' is the result...

"The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist."

Evening all. Hope you're all well!

It's been a while since we had the privilege of giving away three consistently brilliant tunes - even longer since we heard anything from Gent's ARtroniks.
With three of my favourite recent FKOF free downloads and three of Korrupt 's best reviews, these are the first FKOF free downloads of 2013; ARtronik's 'The FKOF EP'.

1. Soundcloud

Korrupt's review:
“ARtroniks applies reverb to the soundscapes in the background of ‘Boundless’, adding good space to the mix. A resonating bassline and a diverse and ‘Eastern-sounding’ pad set in and then disappear with the percussion. ARtroniks gives the tune space to fulfill the climax and leads into the first drop…

“The drop is enthralling, where sample-use plays an important role in giving ‘Boundless’ a special ‘soul’. A diverse spectrum of elements are involved and the low-end rolls nicely in the sub area of the mix. The mid-range comes fully forward as well – what a mixdown! A poppy kick and a snappy snare combine with a constantly changing percussion to sound really striking.

“The soundscapes slow into the break – which then builds up into the second drop. ‘Boundless’ develops until the percussion disappears, while the rest of the elements slowly degrade and the beautiful pads disappear into nothingness.

“ARtroniks doesn’t seem to have any boundaries on what he produces; this is one of those tunes that can easily fit in any tracklist!”

2. Soundcloud

Korrupt's review:
“The keys at the beginning of ‘Control’ act as the ‘peaceful’ lead of the tune. It develops as minimal percussive elements add to an amazing build up. The choirs in the background sound deep giving this tune extra beauty – it’s as if the mix is breathing – becoming its own entity.

“The drop is hard yet quite subtle thanks to the beautiful keys used, while the pounding kick and the massive snappy snare leave a serious statement. ARtroniks has applied different effects on elements throughout the tune. For example, on the percussion: there’s a perfect panned delay right after the impact of the snare, placed in a very intelligent way but without becoming repetitive. The growly basslines move freely within the mid-range of the mix, and the low-end radiates full weight in every present bar of the tune. Note the shaker present in the right moments: adding a lot to the pace of the tune while the percussion comes through in a minimal fashion.

“While the growls continue to take form, glitchy sounds hit the mix right before ARtroniks heads into the break. The break is a great moment for reflection, right before the enormous enormous second drop. The second drop brings a constant amount of pressure and every element gets the chance to developing and reach a climax. The elements fade out slowly, while the lead from the start is the last spark of energy left!”

3. Soundcloud

Korrupt's review:
“Emotive pads fade into the mix, evolving in beautiful and complex ways while percussive elements slowly sneak into the mix. A snare hit appears to accentuate the amount of aggression that could be released upon the listener and a widely delayed voice sample brings in the first drop. ??

“The drop consists of an enormous amount of energy, one of ARtroniks’ signatures, where the mid-range growls play a very important role. The low-end flowing in the sub-region is the definition of full-on weight – warm and vibrant. The pounding kick is on point and the snappy snare threatens to do serious damage. Complex percussive elements continue to hit with a serious pace and more of these elements are introduced with perfect timing: ARtronik’s act of surprise.

“The sample that introduces the break is amazing, while the deep and energetic pads continue to form towards a second drop. This drop hits hard, where the listener can hear full development in most of the elements that have already been present – amazing to hear this progression. All elements are balanced out: every single one of them plays an equal role, ultimately forming one whole piece. The second break gives ARtroniks the chance of successfully degrading the tune from something outrageously beautiful and energetic to an idle state or in this case: ‘Rest’.”

Hope you all enjoy! Big ups :)

Didn't quite get around to posting this one yesterday, but Blynk hit me up with a FKOF free last weekend to celebrate reaching 4k followers on SoundCloud and y'day being his birthday.

Soundcloud

Korrupt 's review of Blynk 's 'Despair' remix:
“A subtle and evolving pad appears as the remix starts, seemingly almost breathing, while an intense choir sucks the listener into the mix. The reverb and delay play an important role, giving the elements an extra dimension. Blynk continues to implement this throughout the whole mix. The resonance present in a lot of the elements inspires amazing chills, without the even tune reaching the first drop.

“From an enthralling woman’s voice right before the drop sets in, to emotive piano keys that give this tune so much character and flavor, Blynk’s remix radiates uplifting energy. The great balance between the subtle yet present kick and the crystal clear percussion sets the basis of this beautiful tune. With heavy support from the low-end, sounding very vibrant and utterly present, none of the elements within this mix could be missed.

“Blynk heads deep through despair, showing the listener the different stages and producing an amazing journey. As progression continues, the use of panning and its power throughout the mix should be noted and not mistaken – excellent implementation by Blynk. The uplifting energy mentioned is present until the very last millisecond of the tune, where the emotion slips through and the soul is touched.

“All coming together as one piece, this one is a gem that deserves a lot attention – Blynk is definitely on top of things. What an excellent remix!”

Fresh FKOF free just gone up:
Soundcloud

Korrupt's review:
“Deep and moody pads enter the mix, where an organicly complex sound develops. The resonance added to the elements tickles the ears, a horn warning the listener that something dangerous is about the unleashed. Shu applies a fade-out on all the elements and a sample from 'The Usual Suspects' brings in the first drop...

“A little pause between the first growl and the actual drum patterns make ‘Rook’ a bit special. Shu brings full force to the tune, the low-end is marvellous! Cold stabs start to attack the listener's nervous system as Shu implements a change to the drum patterns – all while the atmospheric elements keep flowing throughout each other. The tribal elements give ‘Rook’ an exotic vibe in a way and the panning is awesome!

“Dark soundscapes take over the break, leaving an almost ghost-like statement on the listener. The horn re-appears from the first drop and the elements start combining as the second drop appears. The cold stabs reach a certain level, forming the lead while the evolving tribal percussion shows signs of the impending finish.

“This is a great dark production with a lot of heavyweight elements involved – this will tear up the dance!”

New FKOF free download for you all:
Soundcloud

Korrupt's review:
“Fiend’s ‘Gully’ has an interesting intro; a repeating sample sets the mood without the listener being able to hear what’s actually being said. The kick pounds nicely while the hi-hat sets the pace, ready for heavy low-end to emerge. The descending soundscape adds to a climatic build-up before ‘Gully‘ drops...

“At the drop, the kick blends into the low-end with the sub flowing around with a great force. The snare could come forward a bit and although the low-end is a little all over the place, it creates a hypnotic vibe that gives this tune a definite 'gully' twist. The wobbly samples add space within the tune, as new low-end patterns maintain the listener’s focus.

“The break sounds similar to the intro, where the voice becomes a little clearer – but the rest is unchanged. The second drop contains a change in low-end patterns that continue to vibe through the sub-regions, as a pause brings in the sample again as the user can finally hear what’s being said.

“Fiend lets the original drum patterns return, while samples from earlier in the tune make their return at different intervals. ‘Gully’ ends with heavy low-end patterns, as Fiend shows that he's capable of producing a heavyweight tune. Keep an eye on this guy!”

New FKOF free tonight, celebrating (and saying thanks for) reaching 300,000 plays on the FKOF SoundCloud.

This one's a banger from Milan's Piezo:
Soundcloud

Korrupt's review:
“‘Comma’ opens with mystical background sounds that seem to blend perfectly with percussive elements, forming intense soundscapes. A tribal vibe slowly becomes apparent; a quick pace containing significant energy...

“The first drop is intense: immense low-end hits precisely. The structured drum patterns help create a solid sub-region and the depth of the percussion forms a hypnotising force that keeps the listener locked in the mix! Piezo implements new variations every few bars and the snare hitting the mix sounds dangerous due to its layered and snappy hit.

“The short break is well chosen - Piezo obviously doesn’t want to give the listener any chance to rest! All the elements return with full force when the second drop hits, transforming in an insane way – reminding me a little of District & Sleeper’s production style.

“The tune’s energy continues to hit the listener, ending in a simple but effective fadeout at the end of the mix. What a brilliant production from Piezo!”

Not sure if I linked the Arkwright/ DT EP from earlier in the week; check that here: http://soundcloud.com/fatkidonfire/sets ... e-fkof-ep/

Thanks for the continuing support and here's to the next 300k plays! Big ups :D
