The main thing is I can't imagine Merton leading in with the c-word... if he wanted to expose Saville, you'd think he'd be smart enough to do it in a way that could be broadcast. If he's intentionally making it unfit for broadcast, then you'd think someone in the audience would've blabbed to someone about what had happened - it'd be pretty obvious that the Beeb were aware and not pursuing any sort of punishment... Merton can be reckless, but he's not that reckless, I don't think.

I'm not convinced it's even subtle enough for Chris Morris... seems like a good old internet hoax to me.

But what I'd give for Merton to confirm it was true and release the out-take...

The HIGNFY is a fake it's been around a while. It's a good fake though.

So what about Bill Wymans relationship with Mandy Smith who started "dating" the fella when she was 13? What about the countdown in certain papees about women (girls?) approaching their 16th birthday. There's a lot of abuse that has been considered acceptable previously that isn't now.

Libel would be the word... Slander is Libel in non-recorded/published arenas (for instance, telling Saville's clients that he's a rapist)

But Merton and Hislop have been known to sail pretty close to the wind on HIGNFY... they have a lawyer present at all times, and Hislop quite often makes jokes towards him about whatever Merton's going to say which whomever wrote this has obviously picked up on.

I wouldn't put it past them to try it, but I just don't think this is how it'd go. You never know...

I remember there being rumours when I was at school and he once gave a friend of a friend his hotel room number after a charity half marathon... she was 17 at the time... he did the same thing to a bunch of other almost/barely-legal girls without even making sure she didn't see what he was doing! Dude was pretty blatant with it, it seems... he seems to have known he was being protected...

I don't know about "common knowledge" according to the man in the street, but a housemate of mine dated a girl from Auntie a couple of years ago, before he died, and it came up in conversation then as a sort of "Everyone says this is true, but I don't know..." kind of thing.

The friend of mine who's friend was approached writes for an entertainment magazine and he's relayed it from multiple sources in the past, including the necrophilia stuff. So it seems like there were a fair few "in the know", but I think it's been a surprise to most of the general public.

But that's why it's making so many waves... sounds like Newsnight pulled a piece on it a few years ago and at least one previous Director General has come out and said he had, at the very least, suspicions. It's looking incredibly shady.
