Has anyone been watching those Prehistory Autopsy shows on BBC Two this week? I've not seen the Lucy one yet, but the first two are brilliant.
Plus there aren't many better ways to spend an hour than listening to Prof. Alice Roberts' beautiful Westcountry twang teach you about your ancestry.

Story of Film: An Odyssey - 15 part series by Mark Cousins about the evolution of film. Has a good focus on promoting films from all over the world. Some people have a problem with his strong accent but assuming you can get over that this is amazing.
In Our Time - This isn't so much a documentary as a radio show in which Melvyn Bragg interviews experts in a field (could literally be any field) for half an hour. Anyone who finds a lot of documentaries on tv dumbed down should check this out as it does a very good job usually of giving a good overview without oversimplifying the topic. Though some just can't be simplified like Wittgenstein

Rich Hall - Inventing The Indian
http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01nqbqk
Rich Hall somewhat grumpily trying to drag the world's image of native peoples into the 21st century. Very interesting and amazingly pretty funny, but really quite depressing at times.
It's just expired on the iPlayer, but I found a rapidshare without too much hassle the other night.

Doc from the 90s about underground gay/trans culture in the NYC black community... really fucking good indeed. Hilarious, sad and full of "so THAT'S where that comes from" moments.

Watched this last night, was interesting but found it to be too aimed at youth.. they used a lot of video footage from the riots and made it look like it was a revolution against the banks.. it most certainly wasn't, it was mindless vandels stealing trainers from JD Sports.Laszlo wrote:97% Owned?
They also put ideas forward but everybody that spoke on the documentary was actively involved in getting these ideas put into place, making it very one sided.
Also watched the 6 hour beast 'Commanding Heights' which was good, started from early 20th century to present day and how economic policies and economies world wide have changed.
Really want to sit down and get through the mammoth 'World At War' but just can't motivate myself to start it.

I want to see this!teamhobson wrote:Watched a John Peel documentary based around this special box of 7"s that his family found after he died. Was quality, I'll get the name of it when I get home from work.
Re: Documentaries
Not worth the watch then, na? I'll scratch that off my list thenMuncey wrote:Watched this last night, was interesting but found it to be too aimed at youth.. they used a lot of video footage from the riots and made it look like it was a revolution against the banks.. it most certainly wasn't, it was mindless vandels stealing trainers from JD Sports.Laszlo wrote:97% Owned?

At least watch the first minute and 50 seconds and tell me that isn't the most powerful intro to a documentary series you've ever seen.

Finally started World at War, about to watch the 3rd episode now.
Also watched Supersized Earth on iPlayer today.. was quite good, the window cleaners of the tallest building in the world must be on a shit load of money.
