all this revolutionary, power to the people, fuck the industry, subversive talk on internet forums like this and others is hilarious to me. underground music is subversive, but not by sugar coating it with this che guevara attitude. music is a language, either people get it or they don't. leave out all the thug talk.

oh my days there's a vast and deliberate difference, in marketing terms alone, between so solid and dubstep. lmfao...

Gotta say Gutterbreakz, but I think that's due to his local slant on things (for Bristol obviously)

Wayne&Wax blog is excellent for grime, hiphop, dancehall & beyond as is the afforementioned Rupture's blog

interesting report. wish simon would pop on here to discuss this. surely listening to any type of dance music at home severs it of its essential power and repositions its context, but this doesn't make the music unsuitable for home listening, or not enjoyable.
dubstep is dance music?
interesting question..

ghetto siege mentality is feeling like you're under constant attack from mainstream pop monoculture and globalisation...

...one has the potential to expose more people to the sound via inclusion on a big videogame than anyone trying to release 12' to an exclusive scene. The flow on effect would be good for all. We don't make music exclusively for that market but we will try and license finished trax to it

Bob Marley made rebel music but took his message mainstream, you got to if you want achieve critical mass and change public consciousness

oh really, but you still didn't answer the question, could you also please elucidate on the marketing strategy employed by dubstep ???

best writers
martin, fiddy, kode9.

dub step as dance music
sure - reach dmz and see.
music doesn't have to be fast to let you dance, ie theo parrish, reggae , new strands of house - way back to disco , funk ..old hip hop allll slooow

one special element of dubstep is the concentration on space and the physicality of the basslines - that make you move your body parts, not just your legs when u want to imo.
heh

as for k-punk,
he's on it, not necessarily with dubstep but his own thing - seems like multiple men have beef with him but personally i think he's one of the most consistently thought provoking bloggers even if you don't always agree with him .

spare me your nu age, music is a language, tree hugging, cosmic awareness bullshit eh ???...chur
From a linguistic, musicological or semiotic point of view, isn't music a language ? It is my humble opinion that embracing music as a language has very little to do with " tree hugging, cosmic awareness bullshit ".

I wholeheartedly agree with every word seckle has written.

I'll even go as far as saying that underground music is ( never necessarily ) subversive from a strictly, if I may say so, immanent point of view, and what we say about it, or the attitude with which this music is put forward should not detract from the fact that what makes music subversive is it's immanence.
and as i have said previously i don't think dubstep is dance music nor is it particularly suited to clubs or 12' format...
Dubstep borrows many elements from dance music ( the dance continuum )... whether dubstep is or is not dance music is a complex question and I'll be the first person to confess that I cannot answer it !

Anyway, all grime / dubstep journalists / blogists big up your chest. Brap.

lol. listen...you fucking kiwi prick.

1. underground music is subversive by the fact that it's not controlled or influenced by mass media. it's non - conformist music, created by music lovers, as a response to a frustration. the frustration being the megastore/conglomerate/media campaigned/packaged music that's rammed down peoples ears all day long on mtv stations and radio.

2. music is a language. if you do the research going back to tribes in africa, hundreds of years ago, music has always been a language.
if you plan on making and pushing "rebel music", then you better know what the fuck you're talking about.
i suggest you read marshall mcluhan - medium is the message- from 1967, and get back to me. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/de ... 1131150875

3. i like trees. i like new age ambient music. i like outerspace too. now get on with your dubstep world takeover extravaganza, and stop using bob marley's name in vain. true rebels let the music do the talking.

and, dubmugga

I know what the words/terms you used meant, I was questioning, perhaps a little too subtle, the way in which you are using them.

As a producer using video games as a platform for your music is about as conformist/mainstream as it gets.

no! thats the worst crime of cultural theories of music and is completely the opposite of mcluhan

from a linguistic or semiotic point of view, everything is a language.

which tells you nothing about anything, except linguistic imperialism.

Let's get rid of it. Bring on the media theory and forget about these dreadful semiotics.

i dont like "woebot"

look what he said about dubstep "as dance music"

“I couldn't argue an aesthetic case for 90% of Funky House, but even that faintly crap 90% … is about, ooh, lets say 1000 times more interesting than most Dubstep just by merit of having a pulse, by aiming to be entertaining… you can't imagine people losing control or getting sweaty”

what a dirty pile of tommyrot :|
