because that is the definition of being a pro(fessional). Being paid for a skill.

Many people confuse 'pro' with being 'good' - as perhaps, did the OP. However, it is a term that is worth using correctly.

No shit sherlock. Wow. It's pretty interesting, you try to be a smartass, arguing on the exact definitions and shit.

Of course being pro is about money, but I don't believe the OP was concerned about that. I may have misinterpreted what the OP wanted, but I think it's not to have 10 robots repeating the definition they just copy pasted from thefreedictionnary.
The essence of a forum is discussing, sometimes on subjects we don't have the same opinion on, for example "how long would it take to sound really good as a producer".
For sure it's not to feel powerful, scratching your balls and taking questions word by word, but in the end completely missing the purpose of them.

^ Actually u interpreted what i wanted more accurately than most of the repliers. I did like the differences in opinions and understandings though. Good insight.

Nah you need to measure it in yards and multiply it by π.

So I dont think it really matter how long it 'can' take to be a pro, cos it can happen just like that. Actually I think that Pariah's first release on R&S were his first tunes he made.
There's an interview with him where he discusses this here;

Just read through this article. Sounds like he's an example of the producer with natural talent, and the ability to put in hard work. Perhaps explains why he got signed so quickly.

Well yeah...though that is kind of a given IMO. If you are good at something and work hard you are more likely to see success, goes for anything really.

True, but I know from experience people with talent, and who work very hard, who see just limited success.

I'd say luck is just as important as well.

Why I had "more likely" in my previous comment. Nothing is certain...in a similar vein, there are probably plenty of producers who have made it big despite not trying/having any real talent but were in the right place at the right time.

A important factor is you're approach. If you have the apporoach that you'd like to learn everything related to music, then it's gonna take forever. It's important to not be afraid of presets and simplicity.
AND ALSO, a bit of money allways helpls :4:

The way I see it, you always learn stuff and never stop learning. You can always try new areas of music, genres, styles, ect...
I would say, once you are proud of your song's and aren't shy of playing them to others you can consider yourself good enough, I don't think anyone thinks of themself as a pro.

Another thing I've realized recently, (Atleast for me) Is that some people are naturally talented in a genre/style of music, so experiment! :D
I have been playing the piano for 7 something years, and since I started producing I wanted to integrate my piano into my music - problem was I was trying to produce Brostep, wich rarely ever uses piano and only in the intro if that.
A year later, I have been making deep, chill vibes with piano and it all comes naturally to me - It's the best feeling ever :corndance:
No, I don't think my songs are good, but I sure feel they are more natural than my other songs.

So try multiple genres, and listen to alot of music :)

Also, I think it's important to mention that if you know pro's, your journey to becoming one will be shortened by quite a considerable amount. Unless you're just thick haha
