I read somewhere that contradictinng peoes beliefs with logic can help strengthen that belief. Why bother wasting ur energy. If u see them kicking in a 'paki' or setting fire to a mosque call em out on it but otherwise dont waste ur time on bigots its an uphill battle and it just serves u as much when u get all high horsey with the philisties. And also matey coercion is better than all out verbal combat.

Stupid thing is paki means pure.

yeah but it is offence, the shop owners probably not from pakistan.

is it that hard to just say 'going to the shop'
actually it is Pakistani owned hence me saying Pakistani owned
and yea it is to differentiate since nobody actually knows the names of the shops
There's some shop by me that everyone calls "Dave's". There's never been a sign there, there's no indication it's called "Dave's" or the guy in there is called Dave. I just never questioned it for the first 20 years of my life, when I asked the guy. His name is not Dave, he just doesn't want to tell anyone.

All my mates are sound.

But the one exception is there is one mate who causes some issue. He's a bit crazy in regards to his to his religious beliefs and as a result he is really homophobic and a bit weird towards women occasionally too. Like he can be friends with someone who is gay but get him talking when he thinks there is no-one around to be offended and he talks about how it's morally wrong and disgusting and generally other statements about how looks down on them. I always call him out on it and we get stuck in massive debates all the time.

He does however say that sex before marriage is morally wrong too and that people who sleep around too much are disgusting and says that he can still be friends with people like that and so being friends with gay people is ok to him. Still though I wonder as he doesn't seem to associate with anyone gay

I've got a mate who's a Jehova's Witness, we occasionally wind him up by asking him whether he likes gay people or not, because you can tell there's some deep internal rejection of everything to do with homosexuality in him, but also an innate desire to be nice to everyone he meets, so after some silence he's like "I don't agree with their way of life, but I treat them with equal respect". He delivers it like some official statement in a press conference

i know some guys who are friends of friends. both called josh, one white & one black. have a guess what they call them?

black josh & white josh.

now please, someone tell me that calling them either of those names is racist.

Nah that's fine. If you said "my black friend Josh once did this..." where the fact there is no knowledge or relevance to the other Josh involved it would sound weird though.

Unless maybe you were talking about your friend's view on something that related specifically to race.

The point was bringing up race when it's not relevant is a bit strange

no shit you will. that's not my point.

when you unnessacairly have to address someone as black it's almost, to me, closet racism. like you have to make a point their xyz race whatever.

that's just me tho. your point is obviously acceptable tho.

is one taller than the other? call one "tall josh" and the other "short josh".
what about weight?
or personality?
"grumpy josh" and "funny josh"?
is one known for a skill?
"guitar josh" or "painter josh"?
i think its pretty racist youve condensed their personalities into a colour, smh.

Not really. It's just an obvious difference between the two of them. It's not meant insultingly or done completely for no reason.

Intentionally avoiding mentioning someone's race is weird the same like mentioning it for no reason. Just in the other direction.

so can i say the n word if i don't mean it offensively? what if i meant it in a positive way? like opposite derogatory / being used complimentary, it isn't usual but doesn't change the fact that i dont mean any wrong. or would it just come down to if he/she found it offensive.
