I'm new to the site and read the first half dozen posts in this topic. Sorry if the conversation has strayed from the original point since then (which I'm sure it has in the year since it started) but I use this site from my phone and the mobile version is kinda slow for me, lol.

I think the general rule of thumb should be to contribute more genuine reviews than you ask for. I don't see how it could be made a requirement, but common courtesy would be some give and take. Personally, I've given a handful of reviews because I love hearing new music, even from beginners because you can spot potential, even if it's not prevalent yet in their works. I haven't gotten any reviews of my few posts however. Unfortunately the mobile site doesn't let me see how many views my topics have, and I don't know if because I'm new and my post count is low there is a stigma to avoid them, but I see the pattern TC mentioned in making this topic.

I'm not griping, just observing what's already been stated. No worries, ill still objectively review and contribute. It would be nice if the mentality of giving listens before you expect them were more abundant though.

Cheers!

Will be lending my ears to this board again come Monday evening now I am settled somewhere with internet access, was able to sit in the office a lot of the time at my previous job and mooch through as much as I liked, can't really do that at my new job though.

Has there been a noticable improvement in terms of FB here? There was a slight improvement when this thread went up, not sure if it has continued or not.

Everytime i come here its getting worse and worse. All i'm seeing is people posting feedback like "this is good" or "i like it" its absolutely fucking ridiculous. Im taking my time out to critique peoples work and people come here and do jack shite. Wheres the love?

Thing is, people who enjoy listening other people stuff at the end of the day will give some sort of feedback.

I'll tend to thumbs up when I like, but I'll stay put if I don't.

It's probably useful to remember that the field we operate in, is flooded with egocentrical beahviour just like any other field of life.

Some rules have their place and relevance, but too many (specially the ones limiting acess, which brings to mind apartheid, exclusive clubs, etc) and it verges on fascism...

As for my part I'll keep posting produce I consider to be of possible interest regardless of the feedback I'll get.

I'm fresh around this joint, but I'm keeping my hears up for what's rolling.

Keep the vibe pumping.

I had already responded to a few posts before reading this thread lol I agree that this part of the forum should be one of the busiest. I'm a new member and joined because i love 140 music and have started to make some of my own. I'm at a place where i think i would appreciate constructive comments and actually i will offer more detailed critique in the future.

Not sure if its been mentioned already but i think it should be just for dubstep music that is offered, considering the forum name.

All I can suggest is that we continue to lead by example. If enough people start leaving feedback, then hopefully the trend will be taken up by more and more users.

If you're new to forums then you need to be aware of etiquette. Please keep things on-topic, and free from spam.

Post your track in a new thread, leave a bit of feedback for others and others will do the same for you. This thread is NOT the place mate :4:

Just wanted to step in and say I'll be around to contribute again, I was a regular here, probably during the 2nd half of the Golden Era you are all speaking of. I see Zillion and a couple others names I remember too. Good to see there's still love for the Dubs section, it's tough when everyone uses Soundcloud, Facebook, Twitter for one stop sites.

To contribute I believe in the same thing AMG posted here
AMG wrote:I generally follow a few guidelines that I have created for myself since I used to frequent a hip hop forum for the past decade that had a tight knit community.

1. I generally try to comment on posts from those who have zero replies, and/or those who have a ton of views but very few replies. Or those who I know have taken the time to reply to me in the past.

2. I always want to leave a thread with some meaningful impact from my post. Always giving constructive/positive crit/feedback.

3. I always post replies in at least 3 threads prior to me starting a topic asking for feedback on one of my tunes.

I think if more people adopt any of these prerequisites (and I know some do) we'd have a very good formula going. Obviously those aren't the only things. I just wanted to share my thoughts.
Also maybe the WIP thread should be sticky'd to the Dubs forum, def being overlooked by some.. Zillion mentioned the sub-genre forums idea, as well as some others, I think that idea has some potential. This section used to be all about pushing Dubstep because it was still new and reaching new boundaries, things have leveled out since then and people have broadened their tastes in music.

When it comes down to it it's all about the golden rule. It's all about what you put into it. Lead by example, and don't be afraid to go against the grain. Even if a track is no good, say so, don't leave it blank. If it's not your fav style try not to skip it either, we all have room to grow.

Another idea, I haven't seen, is to get some heads to recruit. Maybe come up with some incentive to get new, responsible or meaningful members contributing to something they might be missing out on. It def feels good to be back already and I couldn't imagine with the amount of talent around now that it would be hard to gather some new members. I'd get a group of heads going, Zillion and myself for example would contact anyone we know who would be interested in using the forum (including old members). Make an effort to keep them interested and coming back to the site, and try to get them to do the same. Kind of like a pyramid scheme but for something that really works and we all believe in.

I've noticed that threads are getting a lot more views compared to the start of the year. I took a 3 month break from making tunes, and recently there seems to be lots of threads in here with 100+ views, whereas at the start of the year that was very rare. Replies seem to at about the same level though. Perhaps we have some lurkers who are feeling this side of the forum?

I'd encourage these guys to reply, some fresh faces are always welcome I think.

come on dude use ur noggin :corntard: a lot of forums operate with this sort of system

its to stop people with 1 post spamming their tunes everwhere without contributing anything to the forum first. i mean, it doesnt stop people posting random spammy shit until they achieve the 50 post count, but its at least an attempt to encourage people to integrate with the forum. plus its always pretty obvious when people are just posting 50 nonsense posts just so they can post their tunes, and it really doesnt make a positive first impression at all
