Exactly, that's a big part of what this question is about IMOGenevieve wrote:I think what's unique about Pink Floyd is that they brought a very inaccessible style of music to the masses. But the boundary pushing was done by other bands.

Yes and Aphex twin and Venetian Snares have not been bought to the masses

Re: The Hendrix, Pink Floyd of our generation?
Aphex Twin has been in a lot of films and documentaries and shit, but not realllyy
I get the impression a few metal types like venetian snares but otherwise definitely not
Neither are close to the level of "to the masses" as kanye or pink floyd

The 'masses' aren't the same anymore. Media is more specialized and more targeted. You hear less crazy music on the radio now because there are better, more targeted means for fans of the music to reach it (the internet, blogs, youtube..), even if music has gotten crazier since the '70s (which it has).Harkat wrote:Aphex Twin has been in a lot of films and documentaries and shit, but not realllyy

A band like Sunn0))) or someone like Venetian Snares would've never gotten on the radio in 1975 and without the radio, they would have never reached a decent size audience the way they did in the internet era.
So "alternative music"'s stars aren't as big as they used to be, but more left-field musicians are able to reach a much greater level of success than they would have 40 years ago.

Dreams is big as fuck. The beat is so ill it makes me forgive Game's approval-seeking schtick
