also, what is going on this month?

a lot of people travel for this, and have to start booking hotels and whatnot. It's impossible to get a room in NY for less than 200 bucks within a week of an event. unless you are staying way outside of Manhattan or are in Jersey, which is like 50 bucks by cab because of the tolls.
www.hostelbookers.com. Don't spend $200 at a hotel, mang! You can buy more water with that and keep hydrated on the dancefloor :P
