Wow haven't heard that name in a while, loved their stuff back in the day. They used to put quite a lot of the live improvs on the b-sides of their singles and damn good they were too. Think Darren Emerson's really underrated as a producer
Their live show was/is the best dance music one ever by far. Pretty amazing really, they have all the music they've ever done cut into loops and route the channels they want to a mixing desk with a load of outboard gear for effects, and Ableton. They can have a synth line from a tune they did in 92 with the snare from a track from 2000 with a bongo line from 97 and some hi-hats they did last week. I can't understand how you can keep your head together and improvise like that for 2 hours a night. Personally I'd love to see Mala doing something like that - a pinch of Left Leg Out with some drums from Conference then a cheeky Request Line remix synth line at the same time - but he hasn't got the back catalogue yet to spin it out into an hour set.
I guess the closest person to that at the moment is Goth Trad - his live show is good but he still seems to be limited to having a set list which is always the same and can only manipulate parts of the current track he's playing, rather than being able to mix and match different elements from different tracks.

Hopefully more Glasgow releases and gigs. (Preferably for under 18s aswell )

And maybe a completely new bass sound that overcomes the generic "wobble bass"

Yeh id love to see more stuff like this. At the end of the day a dj is just a dj, the most inspiring performances ive seen this year have been from the likes of boxcutter, His show consists of a laptop (using reaktor), live bass and melodica, it just blows everything else away imo. More on topic I want more 2 step in 08 and less caspa & rusko esque shitstep.
We got some big plans in 08 for Square Records, got an EP coming from Milanese, and stuff from Michael Manning and Anneka.
Square Roots
Plastician, Tempa T, Joy Orbison @ Audio, Brighton - September 4th
The Field (Live) + Support @ Audio, Brighton - November 11th
DMZ in Brighton - Mala/Loefah/Pokes @ Audio, Brighton - November 13th
