not feeling this darkstep sh*t!
What the hell is wrong with people discussing strands of the sound that they don't like?DJ $hy wrote:Waste thread! Agree with you Tes, too much negative!

Bottom line, don’t like it....don’t listen!
Now, I'm not suggesting that this thread has turned into a fantastic discussion about the merits (or otherwise) of metal influences in dubstep - far from it, in fact - but that's at least partly because of the why-can't-we-all-just-get-along posters who seem to be drawn here like moths to a flame.
It's pretty obvious from the title that this is going to be a "negative" thread. If you don't like negative threads, don't read them.
Well put.tes la rok wrote:nowdays i see more threads about "i dont like this blaablaa.." instead of saying "i like this or that..".... it's all good to speak ur mind clear, but sad to see positive vibes fading away... atleast on this forum.
I guess you have to realise that with all music types...they evolve. Artists have their own thing to add to the scene. There are some tunes I don't like but to make a thread saying is shit is a bit extreme.
Just think about Distance when you say this dark dubstep is shit. His stuff is bloody amazing.
sure, we've done some straight up reggae sounding tunes, but muslim dub was the last, and that tune must be getting close to a year old.CleTorres wrote:What dj are you talking about?South3rn wrote:i'm starting to dislike the overly dark tunes
but i'm also tired of dubby (reggae) tunes.
and i'm tired of the "chopped and screwed" stuff (although matty g's first release is still a fucking banger because it was so original)
a certain "dj" killed a lot of people's interest for hip-hop/rap influenced tunes.
we don't need gimmicks to make the sound "acceptable." you either like it or you don't. take it at face value and don't water it down.
I couldve sworn South3n has done a few tunes that str8 up sample 70s dub tunes. Muslium Dub does for sure. and what about Tours VIP , shit uses Sippin on some Sizzurp.
Not hatin just statin'
Good music is good music, nuff said.
my styles have changed, and my interpretation of what dubstep is has changed. there's always going to be the reggae sounding tunes, good and bad, but the whole "it's dub cuz it's dubstep" argument is a little tired.
you know more than a lot of people how big my dub collection is, and i won't ever disown my love for the sound. but i'm beginning to feel that it shouldn't be so prevalent in dubstep (my own feelings, i'm not trying to tell people how to make tunes)
and about using those rap acapellas...we did that before nappy ever came on here throwin "thugstep" around. i felt those acapellas could compliment the tunes i had made and i was doing something a little original.

hmph...i just pull the best from each little area of dubstep and go with that. i can find some gems in all the corners: dark, deep, dubby, light, hard, technoey, wobbly, hiphoppy...
i think the real bummer is when people tend to stick to one specific area of the sound in their production and/or dj sets. vary it up! have fun with it! throw in something that's not dubstep right in the middle of it!
so much whinging and complaining about what's not good, when there is so much that can be done if you just look past all the divisions!
listen to all of it, pull the best from each area, and mash it up however the fuck you want to. the only thing that i don't like is a lack of creativity. everything else is fair fuckin' game in my playbook...

Strangely DOA seems to have been becoming more of a joyous place, filled with vibes and unity, people being really supportive of new sounds and a great place to meet people and hang out and chat. A really tolerant and agreeable place where no-one raises their voice and everyone skips and dances merrilyunklefesta wrote:great pointtes la rok wrote:nowdays i see more threads about "i dont like this blaablaa.." instead of saying "i like this or that..".... it's all good to speak ur mind clear, but sad to see positive vibes fading away... atleast on this forum.
is this place becoming more like DOA everyday?
lets hope not
Hmm....

wow!
look what i did now?? everyone is fingerpointing and calling one another. sorry u guys for creating this negative vibe. but, its just a bit annoying that when im listening to dubstep sets by alot of djs it goes from dubby to whatever to a very LOUD sounding screaming deathmetal influenced track. Like i said earlier. I used to make death metal and still listen on occassion. but since the first 2 yrs. of listening to dubstep. I have never had to witness this in sets and the djs will go from quiet bassy tracks to death metal. how can those oxymorons make a set not slightly annoying? but, there are a bunch of slightly dark tracks and tracks that have a dark vibe that i like alot. just this death metal screaming stuff in dubstep seems unnecessary. now i have to do tons of fwding when i listen to dubstep sets alot now.
... and to be honest, thats a big reason why i started listening to dubstep was i figured the producers would be pushing the boundaries with bass freq.'s and the space from the skipping drums not pushing boundaries on ur ears with trebly loudness.
and lastly.. leave tes la rock alone. if ur there yo, i will be buying a couple of ur tunes when i hit the shop cause ur tracks remind me of the older ragga jungle tracks from back in the day!

Surely that's down to a bad DJ? Gotta pick tunes that go well 2getherfever wrote:the djs will go from quiet bassy tracks to death metal. how can those oxymorons make a set not slightly annoying?
On the chat about dark tunes though
Rottun 001 & Rottun 002 both out on vinyl in your shops now. Do yourself a favour

fever wrote:sorry to sound negative, but is it just me who in this scene isnt feeling this overdark/deathmetal clashy sound going on by select producers?? I tried to dig it but cant... especially those dubstep tunes that directly sample deathmetal and make a dubstep tune out of it. that sound in my opinion, is not dubstep.
Im sure some out there are like who am i to tell what is dubstep, but i listen to dubstep becuase its:
1. good "headnodding" music
2. a style of music where u can just "vibe" to it or dance to.
3. its highly influenced by two of my fav. genres: dnb and dub reggae
4. it has a "chopped and screwed" vibe on certain tunes and can be easily accessible by people of colour, urban ethnicities, reggae and dub fans, junglists, and folks open minded enough to listen to experimental music.
how is deathmetal dub?
oh, and by the way... I love death metal but dont like it in dubstep. it drives me crazy!! a dubby track and a hard on death metal grinding track dont mix!!
anyone agree or disagree??
Thank you for letting us know!
I know what he means about DJ sets incorporating the mad mid range stuff and the deeper stuff- it's very difficult for it not to jar massively. In fact about the only time I've seen it pulled off was at the DMZ before last when Mala and Coki were back to back, they managed to do it so the deep stuff slid into the more upbeat/aggressive stuff and when something like Spongebob dropped it seemed like a release of tension rather than a clash.
