Check out this mash-up...

Burial vs Spank Rock mix
I quite like it..
its awful.
This is one of the worst mashups I've ever heard, and it's pissed me off like an antisocial tube train passenger can ruin your morning. They've taken two of the best records by two of the best artists in my crate, and it doesn't work in any way for anyone with a sense of how sounds go together. Like DJ Shadow says: it's not just about getting things in time, but in tune as well. The Pitchfork review of this work is utter shite too.

the worst thing about this burial v spank rock tune is the hyperbolic pitchfork write-up. there's far worse crimes against music kicking around out there even as we speak. i'm a massive burial fan but he's not fucking sacrosanct.

one word: perspective.

If burial came out and said he liked the mashup and wished he'd done it himself, would all the haters change their tune ?

I mean c'mon, it's no more than he does himself in recontextualising sleazy r'n'b into melancholic glitchy 2 step. If burial proved one thing it's that he doesn't really know how sounds go together either and i hope he never finds out. I do hope he figures out how to program drums though :)

no offence intended epithet, but you just seem to say what sounds good in your head, regardless of truth

None taken. Truth is relative and yeah, prettty much what sounds good in my head at the time. It'll probably change tomorrow but i'll worry about that tomorrow. I just wish i could make tunes like that and time stood still. Thats the thing with burial too that resonates with people i reckon. Rather than over intellectualize or worry about production and quantizing and whether stuff matches, just do what sounds good in his head at the time, pitch it up or down, stretch it out till it just fits and move on. Try to capture the moment, make time stand still. An audio freeze frame of the zeitgeist. For that i'd be well keen to hear his kicks selection.

The DJ Cam and Viktor Duplaix(sp) DJ Kicks are my favorites of all time. Heavy shit right there... but light, get me?

Kick it :)
Suddenly, there was a terrible roar all around us, and the sky was full with what looked like huge bats, all swooping and screeching and diving around the car, and a voice was screaming:
Holy Jesus. What are these goddamn animals?
