most dnb producers i know that arent fans of the dubstep like to write it off as a more poorly produced, slowed down version of dnb

drumdub is most certanly a subgenre of dubstep so yes I would consider is a DnB sugenre.

Honestly this forum should just start a legitimate "Beginners Forum" or "Newcomers to Dubstep." It's important to label the forum with a name such as these so new people can easily find it.

That way all new people can ask beginner questions in there and those who like to help newcomers out can hang out there instead of every new guy getting bashed 24/7.

Just a thought.

OP question was pretty dumb, even for 2008 when dubstep wasn't everywhere. But it does have a point.
You can't ignore it's influence, specially from 2008 onwards, with producers like Riskotheque, SP:MC, LX One, Kryptic Minds and whoever followed (other producers came from dnb before but didn't bring that influence, like TRG or Martyn) + more known producers transitioning or making crossover tunes like Nero, Chase & Status, Pendulum, Tech Itch, SPL etc.
Also, chances are, that if you weren't from the uk, you had no idea of garage. Can't speak for the rest of the world, but dubstep here was at first mainly played at dnb nights; even today, events are still pretty mixed. And before maybe Magnetic Man or Skrillex, that's how most people got into dubstep. But even so, I still think it's more or less the same crowd. Sure, I can name a few guys that were strictly on a dubstep/dark garage tip, but I think this goes for the majority, or at least, that's how I recall it.
