makign tunes sober is all well and good, but sometimes a zoot helps me come out with wierd shit.

normally dedicate zuton to when im graffin or scribblin though.

i find its good for the boring things...editing samples, setting loop points, rendering mixes, building kits etc.

but when it comes to mixing a tune, it CAN be more of a hindrance.

on some tunes, the 'baked' mix sounds better than the sober one though. not everything has to be mixed down to perfection!

deffo. i cant sit and concentrate on a tune unless i'm chonged - a few jays helps things flow more fluently and makes the tedious editing tasks seem a bit more fun.

Mon the ganj!

i had the same problem when i was a graphic designer... now i work with people all day and i love making tunes. i agree it's hard to concentrate and enjoy your comp when you spent all day hating it and wanting to get away. i'm currently in the market for another graphic design job.

good points raised, but now i think i'm in a dilemma :?
Word.
Quit my career to make music for fun at home? Wouldnt be possible for me anyway.
Don’t worry about people stealing an idea. If it’s original, you will have to ram it down their throats.

Last time I tried to make beats on K I was making Techno and got down a 1 bar kick loop when I decided to do a line. I rem coming out of a hole about 40mins later still listening to the same kick on loop quite loud. Never again. Will leave that one for the clubs;)

I studied enough to get where I am in this shithole of a job. I am looking at my options cos I cannot continue like this, its not fun.

if i try to make a tune while stoned ill just end up doing something inane for 2 hours, like programming a synth to make a stupid noise.

i do however make my best mix sets during rave comedowns though!

i actually agree here too. when you're sober, it's more analytical. when you're floating ass wasted stoned, it's more intuitive.

you will be happy to know I have not had a spliff while sitting at the computer since I started this thread. I have also made some of my best grooves to date.

I have been smoking about 10 cigarettes every 3 hours at the computer though.

foreal. lucidity isnt always connected to being sobre though. just extra clarity of mind flow. more depth to the perception and focal point of your own awareness. hence lucid dreaming where you become concious of the fact you are dreaming.

back on topic though, i cut down alot but its nice now and then. again definately not so regularly but some harder substances can be quite entertaining/motivational. last few weeks ive just been on a naturally motivated mission though which is nice.

haha no doubt it has its better time and places. but for more intricate edits and mind fuck glitched music if you have any left overs/spares/large ammount it tends to make the sometimes boring /long winded jobs fly by and even enjoyable.

but yeah being constantly broke means its not so regular. probably for the best.

For example I was working on a tune yesterday for a couple of hours all going fine, decided to take a hit on the bong to stir up some creativity, uh oh! Ended up the next hour playing flash games and reading up on conspiracies. Waste!

It's nice to smoke and make melodies but fuck trying to make a decent beat. That shit needs to be done when you are clear headed and technical. If I've been smoking I'll open up some pre-made beats and lay down some sick melodies. Trust some deepness there.

If I try make a full tune it usually sounds completely shit the next day and I dunno about you but fuck trying to polish a turd. I delete that shit.
