Bass was well heavy last night!!! :o :o :o Place was also well rammed, don't think it's stayed that busy that late in ages!

Brackles was brilliant, really liked his mix of garage and dubstep. What was that last tune he played?

D1 always drops massive pounders, although I'm not normally a huge fan of Ongie Bongie, it was good last night.

Kode9 was doing his usual eclectic mix, can never really predict what he's gonna play. Quite enjoyed it this time, though the middle bits got slightly samey after a while. Crowd went wild with Poison Dart, that was an awesome good mix.

Only downside was the sound when Kode9 came on as others have been saying. Was like the Caspa episode a couple weeks back but not as physically painful. I'm convinced they've serviced/retuned/upgraded the system coz the bass is more chestpounding than ever. But the high frequencies are just too loud. Used to stand right next to the left speaker, can't get any closer than the middle pillar now. Tried to move forward at a quiet point and had to scurry back immediately when the volume went back up. Gonna have to invest in a pair of earplugs. Could barely hear anything at work today.

So Zomby didn't play then? Had gone mostly to see him play, left gutted thinking he was gonna come on after Kode9. So didn't miss much then! Phew!

Was nice to finally meet a few more people from here too!

Is it always the same guy that's lighting up under the exit sign? It's becoming like clockwork

roska

apple

kode dropped tracks off these two last night. also played 'sirens' by Hard House Banton which i can' find on a record store online anywhere but you could probably find a sample of somewhere. try dubplate.net as they have quite a bit of funky on there now, mostly mp3 though. uptownrecords.com/store/ is also where i got most of the bits i have but they're quite pricey. www.rhythmdivision.co.uk also has some good bits.
a lot of funky is pretty vocal based and heavy on the cheese. kodes been selecting the tastiest and roughest bits, so its really not all good if you ask me. most of it is truly horrible in fact. great if you're into craig david though!
there are some gems out there which are seriously worth tracking down

also dropped '2bad' by him and LD if i remember, forthcoming on hyperdub and this

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=1epq0tTTnlY

also coming next year on hyperdub called black sun or something?
really representative of a lot of his own stuff he was playing last night on dubplate which is his take on the funky thing.

check this for a couple of other tracks along the same lines:

That tune is actually amazing! Sounded sick last night. Sounds more Wonky/Dubsteppy than Funky to me. Kode9 genre smashing as usual, as people should always be doing in my opinion.
That's GAZ-EEN-EE-OH... For those that have never heard of most of the Brazil squad.

yeah its def got that 'wonky' feel to it with the swooping synth but the rhythmic template follows the funky made by apple and roska etc that he's been playing out, its kinda 4x4 but not quite and has loads of off beat snares coming in half a beat befor the kick.
in that mix and interview for dj rupture on his radio show kode sums it up by saying he sees this new 'funky' sound as kind of 'socca meets grime' which pretty much sums up what hes playing by other producers and making himself.
all the stuff i think of as 'wonky' is also off kilter beat wise, all going back to j dilla's organic sounding production, like the beats tapped out by hand on the sampler rather then programmed rigid by a drum machine. and thats all over fly lo , samiyam, lukid, hud mo and all those 'wonky' types.
kode is of course as you said doing his own thing with it though and it altogether counds like nothing else really.
cant wait for black sun. it is truly sick!

Sounded like a joker tune, a bit like holly and gully, but was neither of those.

Latest Marcus Nasty & Rankin Rinse FM podcast (with JME, Frisco, Coldsteps + Versatile). http://www.dubplate.net/rinse/podcasts/ ... 261108.mp3

25mins in - Geeneus - Yellowtail (http://www.boomkat.com/item.cfm?id=1493 ... ght=149370)
1h18mins in (this one got wheeled).
I'm sure he played a few others from this set as well, but not certain (1h06mins?? 1h25mins?? 1h26mins?? 1h34mins??).

Sorry I don't know the names or producers (but had heard most of them before on various Marcus Nasty/Spyro/MA1/Mac10/Crazy Cousins/Clairvoyants rinse shows).
They were generally the more grimey sounding bass heavy funky tunes rather than the housey stuff (no cheesy commercial sounding vocals).
Cheers 4 the link 2 that rinse set, it's propa bangin.
It was interestin how mucj more positively the fwd croud reacted to Kode's funky set as opposed to geeneus's more 'commercial' set a couple of weeks ago.
Still remembrin bits of the night and feelin provileged 2 have been there. Was kinda like a movie that doesn't hit you proply until you've stood back from it a day later :K:
I want my beats to sound like arrhythmia.

sick night

all 3 DJs killed it, proper good dance music all night no time for getting ur head down, or tearing it out.. str8 nice bubblers all night.

kode 9 killed it. Sirens went off, that's easily my tune of the year alongside Need You by the Darkstar.. that tune after poison dart blew my mind what was it??

Sirens is huge. He didn't play the Gabryelle RMX did he, I'd be gutted if I missed that.
