yes Dr pkbludclot, taking daily aspirin after middle age is indeed a good idea for these reasons. should be low dose aspirin (75mg) though not the ones used as painkillers which are 300mg.crat wrote:mm it's true that the effect of paracetamol etc. decreases when u went out and have a hangover (hangover is the dehydration of your brain, and this is because ure liver is doing serious overtime) so with the liver already busy excreting the toxins, taking paracetamol or any other merdicine that passes trough the liver (and that almost all) will even more overload your liver.pk- wrote:I thought once you were past 30 you were meant to take an aspirin every day to purposefully thin the blood & avoid clots/strokes etcDJ Sinc Vision wrote:is this true?? i was aware that regular use of pain killers weakens their effectiveness but didn't think they were causing me any adverse effects beyond that.starz wrote:DON'T take headache medicine (ibuprofen, asprin, paracetamol)..it'll mess with your poor liver, thin your blood... just mess you up unknowingly!!!
I'm no doctor though
not since the tribunal
So it won't help at the level it should + it's actually not so good for your liver.
i never understand where all these misconceptions about painkillers and alcohol come from.
taking paracetamol within recommended doses will not harm your liver even if have been drinking, alcohol wont reduce the efficacy of paracetamol either
paracetamol and alcohol are only a dangerous combination if if you've had 50+ tablets ie trying to top yourself, and you drink loads on top of that, because as crat rightly says both are processed by the liver so the damage is greatly increased -->liver failure-->death
aspirin/ibuprofen are mainly excreted by the kidneys, again should cause no problems if taken with alcohol in normal amounts. heavy alcohol use can irritate the stomach lining though as can heavy use of aspirin/nurofen, so doing both of these together increases risk of gastric side effects of these tablets ie if youre an alcoholic you shouldnt take them frequently as it will give you a stomach ulcer. i wouldnt normally suggest taking these for a hangover though cos they can upset your stomach further, howver this affects some people not others and is usually solved by taking them with food
on the other hand you shouldnt really drink with codeine-based painkillers as both can make you drowsy --> additive effect -->knocks you right out--->may never wake up
hooray people you can now cure your hangover headaches without fear

oh yeah some good hangover cures..
Dioralyte - sachet that you add water to make rehydration drink, normally used for diarrhoea/vomiting but if you have one before you go to bed should help prevent the otherwise inevitable
Berocca - has B vits, lack of these is supposed to cause hangover
Resolve - has paracetamol and sodium bicarb to settle stomach, if you can keep it down
failing that bacon sandwich+Bloody Mary+some fucking loud tunes

Som Tam
Thailand provides the worlds most terrible hangovers. Heat and very impure booze. This ridiculously spicy and sour papaya and preserved fish salad really is the one. Truly the holy grail of hangover cures.
