Is this subforum necessary?
It is input actaually, just not very positive, and if you don't like it stop coming in this thread!badger wrote:indeedJess_is_NOT_OK wrote:obnoxious.
this forum's here and for the most part people are happy with it so if you aren't here to discuss anything about the music then jog on
wonderful input as ever. jungle doesn't sound anything like house but that doesn't mean it's not a continuation of a musical evolutionAbs wrote:It's just shitty house music with some bongos n that innit, incredibly gay and not really anything like dubstep.
I am still confused about "funky".
It has nothing to do with funky house? Stuff i heard was kinda slow soca garage with those awful grime midi violins and throwaway vocals. Not gonna rule it out as i love writing at 125bpm, but what i have heard so far just hasn't struck with me, if anyone could recommend me a decent mix i'd appreciate it.

no it is related to funky house, hence the name, but it's a bit of a bastard child as it doesn't really bear that much in common to it. but as you said it's very socafied with bongos and congas rather than a monotonous house beat. it's like a combination of house and garage but isn't either (if that makes any sense), someone described funky as "house made by grime producers" and that about sums it up. there is a lot of tunes that are more traditional funky house style with the cheesy vocals but a harder more grimey sound is starting to become dominant as played by DJs like marcus nasty, some sets hereThump Rat wrote:I am still confused about "funky".

this is absurd, why make some irrelevant, unsubstantiated allegations concerning about which you know nothing?
this forum was created to try and give some space for discussion over what is, in some ways, a new path for UKG - much as Grime and Dubstep have been in the past. Yes, there was much chat in the 'Other Music' and 'Dubstep' forums, but the discussions were therefore fragmented and we felt there was enough interest to create this little sub-forum.
If you don't like its presence, or the music itself, then there's just no need to visit. If you do like the music, then have a read/chat, share your thoughts, and perhaps we can all learn a few new things and find great new music to listen to.
That's it. No need for negativity, or whingeing, or anything like that. We all like music, and Dubway (and the Mods) are simply trying to find the best ways to promote discussion.

Re: Is this subforum necessary?
Dubway already explained that he couldn't make it a subforum of 'Other Music'. It's not really a big deal, funky relates to dubstep in that it's (like grime) London born/based dance music and shares space with traditional 'dubstep' nights/radio stations, e.g. Fwd and Rinse Fm.dubway wrote:yeah..optimum wrote:Should this not be a sticky on the 'Other music' subforum?
ideally it would be a subforum in 'Other music' subforum,
but since that is technically not possible i decided for this.
just to make it tidy,
because every other thread in 'Other music' was "What The Hell Is This "Funky" People Speak Of???" (as you can see here)
OMG it's a new sub-forum for a genre of music I don't like, I MUST MOAN about it.
Some people have way too much time on their hands. If you don't like the music, you don't belong in this forum, just like I don't litter threads about artists in the dubstep section I don't like with comments like 'he's shit', 'this is boring' etc.
Now, where can I get the Lil Silva 12"?

Some peoples innate, & totally unjustifiable, sense of entitlement will never cease to amaze me.

People into more US House will know a few tunes here, good varied mix, not overly soulfull or grimey! Get in!N.B Funky wrote:Check out my mix CD "Back 2 Africa". This cd was put together to celebrate the recent Back to the motherland music festival in The Gambia. I dj-ed Everyday on a 7 day long holiday in The Gambia and I must say the Gambian people appreciated the UK Funky sound.
Check out the cd and get a feel for the kinda vibe and tunes I was dropping on African soil.

interview by him here too btw http://www.onahype.blogspot.com/
cheers

Maybe this interest in funky and the resulting subforum is related to the way that quite a lot of dubstep now sounds like the horrible love child of heavy metal and modern drum and bass...
looks like there are quite a few forum folk who like dance music to be danceable and not totally aggro cave man style.

What are the chances that the forum as a whole degenerates into a pitched battle between Funky-lovers and Funky-haters? Could get interesting

(All jokes aside though, please don't actually let this happen)
