All of those 'mainstream' producers like Neptunes, Timbaland, Polow, The Dream, etc. etc. are easily as good as the so called 'golden era'.
HHHAAAAA...that is a good joke right there.

RZA, Pete Rock, J Dilla, Spinna, the Shocklee brothers, Premo, and tons of others who made hip hop worth anything, destroy anything the Neptunes, Timba, Polow, the Dream ever did. Maybe they are more, "technically proficient", but they have no ear for sounds that I could give a fuck about, and sound like they were made on a casio keyboard, with weak terrible synths and absolutely retarded lyrics for the artists that rap over them.

These amazing producers I have listed made quality beats, and still do except Dilla (RIP)..... but I will take even the worst Dilla beat over the Neptunes any day. These artists inject that soul element to their sound that the modern day mainstream producers seemed to have lost.

When I was into hip hop in the golden era, the mainstream hip hop WAS good hip hop. If you watched Yo MTV raps, and rap city back then, 90% of the tunes played were really good, amazing stuff. Can't say the same for now.
Rza, Primo, Shocklee etc fell off a long time ago imo. Spinna makes pretty good house these days.

You say rappers rap about 'retardard' stuff, didn't Dilla just rap about the same stuff; chains etc. I would say Pharrell's done stuff as good as Dilla. Anyway Dilla was a fan of all those mainstream guys, he even admitted to ripping off Timbaland and Dre at one point. Dilla was also verging on the mainstream too, he made beats for Busta, Q-Tip and Janet Jackson etc.

i don't care if you think lil wayne sucks (a lot of people do).. but saying american rap is all "i'll shoot you, i'll stab you i'll shoot you, i'll stab you ill shoot you, i'll stab you, money cash hoes money cash hoes... i'll shoot you, i'll stab you........... and then i'll rob you coz im the greatest" is ridiculous

and if you want to really talk about a lack of variety look no further than the grime scene. not that i'm not a fan

grime is crossing over with funky, dubstep, electro, pop. Producers like Joker, Maniac Terror Danjah makin some of the most interesting music I've heard in time. GTFO basicly.

of course you could argue against it being dubstep influenced. but you can make strong sonic connections for sure.

Weezy has no need for words, he communicates thru pure phonemes.

co-sign... as far as i can tell almost no one here has a right to rant and rave about the state of hip hop past and present.... just b/c you personally don't like something, it doesn't make it less "valid", "black" ,"good music", or "real hip hop"...

in actuality, these sorts of touchy subjects tend to resolve themselves just fine out in the real world w/o the input of some disgruntled nerds on the internet...

??? Pharrell's done some amazing stuff. I've been listening to the first version of NERD's In Search Of a lot recently. The original version had ASR10 drums not live parts.. if you can track it down it's worth your time. Such a classic album.

imo a step in the right direction for the US rap game would be a step away from Lil' Wayne
a step in the right direction for the US rap scene would be to just fuck off completly

it never really changes, its all "i'll shoot you, i'll stab you i'll shoot you, i'll stab you ill shoot you, i'll stab you, money cash hoes money cash hoes... i'll shoot you, i'll stab you........... and then i'll rob you coz im the greatest"

sorry if these words offend any rap lovers in here, but thats all i seem to be hearing when im unfortunate enough to be anywhere near someone who is listening to this garbage

rant over, been a long day

bollocks . stop listening to the radio . good music is never on the radio
