There are a lot of different techniques that can be used to create that sound. I personally have my own form and I'm still learning as I continue to do more. Like what was mentioned in a previous reply I definitely don't "know" my equipment and all the technicalities but it's all about being hands on with it and working it until it sounds good to you.
