Since most people seem to lack sense of humor/sarcasm, this was an inside joke with some people. No, it was not serious.

You forget that if you're posting on a forum that Americans are on you have to take into account the erm... well you just have to remember that some Americans don't seem acquainted with comedy that is a parody, satirical or sarcastic. Put all three into a joke and you'll have the average American scratching their head in puzzlement.

Not all Americans of course, but sadly there is enough to give the perception that Americans are about as funny as the Germans
