when Zed Bias came out to Aus, he was using CDs, and only CDs. The man was a fiend! at the end of his set the dj booth was littered with burnt cds...ahh good times

I use Traktor and Vinyl but was also thinking of getting to grips with CDJs as they're getting pretty standard in clubs now. The Denon CD decks look interesting as they have 2 outputs and are basically 2 decks in one, being able to mix 2 tunes off 1 CD:

It would be sweet to get two of these for 4 way mixes. I'd probably mix all the tunes in my set down to the same BPM and set up loads of cue points tho, so I could concentrate on the 4 way mixes.

However, as I can do this pretty nicely with Traktor and my Korg Zero 4 digital mixer already, I can't justify the extra expense right now.

Obviously I prefer mixing vinyl and do on released tracks, but predominantly use CD's as I don't have the necessary funds to cut dubplates of the new tunes I get sent to play.

Radio
CD's and Serato are very popular on radio shows throughout. Its difficult to justify cutting dubplates to play on radio shows (the broadcast wont differ to much to that of a dubplate being played)

Playing out Live
Majority of the guys who regularly play out, cut 12" dubs and not 10" now. Pushing the sound barriers even further. These djs who have a bag full of dubs, obviously utilise these on their shows.


Personally I use cds, serato, vinyl and the odd dubplate i do cut.

No I didnt, not a single cd from me mate, they were for Storm on after me, there wouldn't have been no point in me carrying 30 kilos of dubs to only whip out cd's

i'm in the same boat as most...play cds as i can't afford to cut plates for every dub i got. would much rather play nothing but vinyl and plates but mans got to do what mans got to do.

and who use usb sticks decks?

Same here but with traktor pro. A good place to start and it was the most expandable solution. Whenever I can justify it, I'm gunna add a pair of decks and serato/torq.

Loads of talk around this subject, what I like is that everyone is different just like when it comes to production.

I have a set of Numark CD Decks rack mount style I use alonside my 1210's at home, they are shit but they get the job done. It means I've got more used to mixing digitally so now I can use CDJ's when I play out in clubs (after a few shakey sets!!), its all about widening your selection what ever you use.

add in the fact that the gain (volume) out of a CDJ deck is much louder than a vinyl deck and i defintely notice the loud sonic harshness when DJs use CDs in clubs...

why dont ten inch dubs get cut as much?
