Even if every single Dubstep tune was made at bang on 140 bpm that doesn't mean tunes will still stay locked. If one of the tunes has swing in for instance then you gotta watch that tune you can't just think oh its bang on 140 it will stay in time especially not on vinyl.

same tempo = easier to mix quickly = more interesting set
i like to mix quickly, and tunes at the same tempo makes this easier.

This makes it way to easy for people to mix, and subsequently drawing the wrong type of people toward mixing dubstep.

Thoughts?
it's called rhythm. it's what gives a style of music its identity.
have you noticed that every music genre has one?

all electronic music is easy to mix. a good dj uses innovation to create their own sound by mixing creatively.
the beauty of this is that ANYONE can do it - that's the point.

surely it's because the default tempo setting in fruityloops is 140?

i don't use it...but it's an interesting idea to think that a default setting on a peice of software has been partially responsible for shaping a scene

Ok ok I don't listen to 'a lot' of grime but what I've heard ain't 140! Loads of sample packs I've seen are 125-140 as well so quite a few are prob not doing it how you'd expect...
I make what I want how I like it, standardising tempo restricts creativity on at least that part but also rhythm to a lesser one.

if you're relying on pre-packaged sample cd loops production wise you're doing it wrong
