Could someone post a sample of that Brutal Electro-patch. Something to put into sampler.
First there was hoover, then came Reese and now 'brutal electro' seems to be the next thing.
Let's give it 5 years or so and people will be making threads on dogsonacid and here with thread names like "How do I make that crazy Brutty Electra" and someone then oldskool how isn't even born yet corrects that it's Brute Electro and someone else speculates that it used to be a preset in Massive (like what's that preset thing from alpha juno). History truly seems to be repeating it self.
We still need to figure out a substitute for Amen and dubstep's pretty much set for world domination.

Brilliant.

The ability and talent of the artist resides in what is created with whichever tools are chosen. We could all have access to the same samples and patches. The truly gifted will make their combinations completely unique based on their vision, not what they used.
If you have a vision, as an artist, you should be focused on how best to actualize that unique perspective. And whether you go in and individually record every single drum from a live drummer to sample in your drum pattern, or have found the perfect patch to kickstart the process, it only matters if you've used what you have to the best of your ability in a new and creative way, and if what you've made changes and touches others.
You can be the producer's producer, but they are not usually acclaimed in their own lifetime if at all. Its a noble quest, but I would be satisfied knowing many people were moved by what I made, not just a select few.

Music isn't meant to be anything. Music is what it is. The term 'music' u use is a pile of bullshit people thought up over the last 2 million years. Music is a byproduct of the evolution of specific genes which increased the survival rates of all the myriad organisms that carried the mutations over the past 100 million years.

Another thing...I think sampling takes way more, let's say, "time & care". I go through my music, go through tracks....try and piece together loops. Try and manipulate loops to my own liking, and that becomes the foundation for a track more times.
I just two nights ago went into the preset bank in Massive...if cats choose that shit straight up, there is no real creativity involved. If you straight up click "Elephant Federation" and hold down g and let it do what it does, its in no way similar to carefully selected samples from musical sources. That's more like, I dunno, Madlib giving you his loops sans beats....get my drift?

personally, I try to make most of my sounds rape-you-in-the-ear/introduce-cheese-grater-to-face, but I am obsessive about doing it all from scratch, down to building all custom tools in reaktor and max and modular synths. just a by product of my music tech degree. that being said, I dont care too much when I know people are using presets. some people are more into the technical challenge and some people just wanna make tunes. to each their own.
To me it's not some sort of pissing contest about who can do the hardest thing, though. There are long term problems that are going to come with always taking the easy way and always relying on the preset to write the tune for you - you end up with a scene that's limited by the preset designers rather than driven forward by the producers - but I wouldn't write it off straight out under all circumstances.
And to be honest, a lot of sounds are going to be generic whether you roll your own presets or not. I mean, some people might care whether the big evolving pad sound you used is entirely your own work, but if you're using a basic organ sound or a standard analogue style bass or whatever then worrying about whether it's a preset or not is like worrying about whether a guitarist made their own guitar.
