Erm, actually I think you'll find there's plenty of mids and highs in detuned saw waves. Saw waves are the most harmonically rich of the basic waves (every harmonic is present at decreasing volume as you go up) and adding detuned layers puts even more harmonics inbetween. The reason reeses are so nice is because they cover such a wide frequency band leaving you with lots you can do with filters.
I agree that saw waves have plenty of frequency content across the whole spectrum, however, my first point remains.

and due to having been lowpass filtered), no mids or highs in those.

I'm gunna make a Cack Combi for Reason one of these days.... It'll be great! Add drums, filter sweep & press to vinyl. I'll be hailed as a critical innovator for centuries to come. I'll be rich and famous beyond anything that's ever been known before!!!
Tbh, I've turned a new leaf. I no longer care what people like and listen too. I figure that as I already successfully ignore auto-tune R'n'B/Hip Hop, Cajun & Celtic fiddle music, I can ignore cackstep too.
I guess cack benefits the economy anyway. If everyone unanimously decided to stop producing cack, the ear plug and vomit bag industries would collapse!

Exactly, a pretty common technique with reeses is to split them up into 3 different parts (lows, mids & highs) and process them all differently then put them back together. It's the mids & tops which give reeses all the gnarly movement.
