Re: The Renoise Q&A thread
i started using renoise "properly" this week. how do fellow renoise users find the built in fx? i think they're alright actually. maybe i have low standards.

Re: The Renoise Q&A thread
bump. another question.
does renoise have problems "seeing" some vsts?
i had a problem before that renoise would not detect reason as a rewire device, luckily i was getting my laptop serviced that week and now it works all fine.
i've recently tried to install the demo of predator but renoise doesn't detect it. which is strange because it was able to detect the demos of subboombass, albino and blue which are also rob papen synths. now i thought it was just a once off but now i just tried to install Gr4ainz which is a free vst and now that vst isn't being recognised either. is this a common issue or is my laptop just retarded?
and before you ask yes i have cracked software installed on my laptop, but the only cracked program i have is propellerheads recycle. i know a lot of people here are against piracy but i am totally against paying that much money for a program that IMO does so little.

Yes, the Renoise FX are excellent. The EQ has a few issues, so you may need to go 3rd party on that, but aside from that, once you learn how to use them all, you will have no trouble with them what-so-ever. The fact that they are built in makes them massively stable and CPU efficient too, which is important.
My favourite plugs at the moment at the LoFi-mat, the delay (play around with it for a while and you will soon figure it out), and the distortion.
Routing is great too.

Before I go into the VST issues any further, have you tried rescanning the VSt directory?
Hit CTRL + , and go to the VST section. Click Re-Scan.
If this doesn't work, post back and I will work through all possibilities with you
Cheeeeeeeeeeeers!

Re: The Renoise Q&A thread
yes i've really started to like the built in fx in renoise actually. i especailly like the reverb units.
thanks for the help. i tried rescanning the vst directory and still no luck.
i have a feeling that the issue has something to do with my laptop rather than renoise in general which is rather annoying as i don't know much about computers.

Re: The Renoise Q&A thread
Nope, it will be nothing to do with your laptop.
Are you using Windows?

Did you check the programs are actually installed in one of the two folders listed in the Plugs tab in Renoise ?yellowhighlighter wrote:thanks for the help. i tried rescanning the vst directory and still no luck.
Re: The Renoise Q&A thread
@ vadar : regarding the use of Rewire with Reason, they say you can "control Reason’s built-in synthesizers" but the only thing I can control is the start/stop action, did I miss something ?

yes i am using windows.
@ daft tnuc, i don't know if this is what you're talking about but if you select midi control device from the automation menu you can control 2 parameters of whatever reason synth you've selected.

Re: The Renoise Q&A thread
No, the question was how to get Reason's synths to act as VSTs - which is now sorted - but thanks for the tip on MIDI control.
Btw, you can control all parameters from the MIDI control device.

Re: The Renoise Q&A thread
Just a little tip the hydra is forking useful
you can assign it to nine different plug in sliders and automates all of them, pretty cool for like chained effects etc, can get pretty crazy.
you can link these to other hydras aswell, but i haven't needed to do that yet.
could see this being good for live performances tweaking resonance reverb distortion and filters all with one knob

Re: The Renoise Q&A thread
ummm, a little question....
if i rewired renoise into reaper would i be able to arrange the loops in each pattern or not in reapers sequencer.... how does it work?
i tried rewiring but all i see in reaper is a massive piece of white.....evrything works but i still have to do all the arranging in renoise

Re: The Renoise Q&A thread
FUCK TO THE YES+ Instrument Grabber
Just like Renoise's versatile "Render Selection To Sample" feature,
the Instrument Grabber allows you to create sample based instruments
from any VSTi or AU plugin instrument.
Extremely useful to free up your songs from plugin dependencies, or
just to extend your sample library with sounds from your favorite
plugin instruments.
The instrument grabber features:
- replace or create multiple instruments with custom batch settings
- replace/unload the plugin instrument in the whole song, or create
new instruments
- create single or multi-sample instruments from a range of notes
with specified sampling step (specify how many samples to capture)
- smooth auto looping via crossfading, or a customizable note, tail
duration with auto cropping or fading
+ A Bunch of New Internal Effects
- Cabinet Simulator Audio FX
A truly excellent, yet simple to use Guitar & Bass Amp simulator
with 18 different cabinet models, a nasty tube, and an EQ.
Highly recommended, not just for guitar or bass sounds.
- Stutter Audio FX
Basically this thing just repeats whatever you throw at it. But, by
having total control over the repeat rate and time alignment of
the repeats, you can easily add variations for drums, or create
strange stutter like effects.
Statement of Intent VIP / Sahaquiel v4 single out now on UK Trends.

Re: The Renoise Q&A thread
Absolutely HUGE update!
Still finding new things they have added even after hitting it hard for a day or so.
The Pattern Arranger makes everything SO much better, and the graphical enhancements are ace too. Bit hard to find a few things at first, but when you do, it makes a lot more sense.
TIP: the edit step feature is not at the bottom of the Pattern Editor (took me a while to find that one!)
