Scion - 'Dubstep Studio' ....Car Company C**ts
ultimately, this is a failed strategy for scion.
scion should sell cars. if they wanna think up cool ways to integrate music into their cars that would be neat. and for sure, license tunes for their commercials... i dunno all kinds of stuff they could think of, but CARS.
they shouldnt be trying to be party promoters or a bootleg toy sequencer.
they will never be music tastemakers. sorry. and nor should they lol, they make cars.
its pretty much a terrible long term PR strategy imho. kinnnnnda works for now but, itll be over eventually.. unless......
there is one thing, ive begun to think that scion in its entirety is just advertising. for toyota & lexus. like, if toyota doesnt intend on doing anything (anything meaning actually become a huge car brand) with scion except promote toyota (the worlds largest auto manufacturer), then we might see scion become THE dominating force in "underground" music, which is to me, sort of a scary prospect, and is already wellll underway.

It's only a problem for you if it somehow influences your tastes. You obviously see the forest for the trees, so what does it matter in terms of your life what Scion are doing?
You're not about to run out and buy a Toyota because they advertised to you. But let me ask you a question... what if you did... would that somehow cause more damage than any other car company simply because they are the biggest? They also pay higher wages and provide more American jobs than the American auto industry does.
The way I look at it is that you should play these Scion parties like any cheap gold digger at a bar. Go out in your sluttiest attire, have the best time you can and drink the free drinks, dance with the people and have a good time, and at the end of the night give them a fake number... i.e. don't buy their product, don't sell them your ass for drinks. Simple strategy for getting crunk and not paying for anything.
If it's a shit longterm PR strategy for Scion then that will play out and you will win, since you hate them so much for what they are doing. Let it play out then and see what happens. In the meantime it's going to happen whether you complain or not, you don't have the power to stop it.

i have exactly the same power that they do. scion uses its media to tell you "United by Individuality", im using mine to say we are UNITED by something bigger than cash, not individuals, but a community & not a commodity.Set Records wrote:In the meantime it's going to happen whether you complain or not, you don't have the power to stop it.
take it or leave it, just like you do their message.
and lol, dude, i dunno what makes you think i dont rape them right back, i go to the parties, i get their shit, im just not gonna be taking their $ is all (with all due respect to those who decide otherwise, i really aint mad at yall one bit). i support my local community, and if all the heads are at the spot partying with someones music i dig, best believe im there, having mad fun lol.
and at the same time talking this same shit with other heads who can handle it lol
nah, not in my experience.Jolly Wailer wrote:wait the drinks are free too?!
I take back everything I said about scionstep
cept for the vips. i did scam free drinks in miami. but the drinks for the un-superhipcool people were ridiculous, like 8$ for a CAN of beer lol..
maybe its different out west. probably some hour open bar or shit i didnt know about tho in nyc.... otherwise drinks cost, and there are def alot of scion parties with covers too even....
Yeah its all about getting the vip at these events fuck standing in line..human? wrote:nah, not in my experience.Jolly Wailer wrote:wait the drinks are free too?!

tbh, scion events are exactly the type of events where i dont mind being a prol one bit.
i appreciate my access when i earn it, scheming on scion VIP feels tacky lol.
word you asked a question and i didnt answer it, but i read back and was thinking about it....Set Records wrote: You're not about to run out and buy a Toyota because they advertised to you. i actually think there alot of questions we should be asking the auto industry.
like why have every step along the way have they fought tooth & nail, lawsuits and all, against the state of california and its emissions regulations?
the auto industry is awful. their technology is filthy. americas car based culture is disgusting. and every improvement comes from forcing them to change, not their innovations....
and like i said in the other thread, why is toyota sponsoring people getting wasted? SUPER wasted even, tends to be the vibe at their events...
people die in america more from drunk driving related deaths than they do ODing on all illegal drugs combined. imagine a commercial for beer where everyone is driving. why do we have a car commercial where everyone is drinking?
is that a safety feature on the new scion? you wont die drinking & driving?
so those are questions i have for toyota, since they are the worlds largest auto manufacturer.
MORE damage? meh, not really (altho officially honda has less of a damage footprint per car ratio even tho toyota is really pushing the hybrid shit) ... but in cities shouldnt we be encouraging public transportation, bikes & walking... especially when drinking?

It's not the responsibility of the Government or the Automakers or the Bar or the Alcohol producers of the world to keep you from doing something stupid though. Ultimately people should take responsibility for their own actions. You burn yourself at McDonald's, you shouldn't get 10 MILLION because the Coffee was adequately hot. You go out and get liquored up and kill yourself or someone else that is purely your fault.
Wanna talk about emissions, talk about the first hybrid car to be mass marketed being made by Toyota. They were ahead of the game. They've made it cool to be eco friendly. It's trendy now. Pretty sure they also own Lexus don't they? Lexus introduced the first hybrid SUVs. Do I think they actually care about the environment? I'm not that naive. I do, however believe that the public forced compliance. So yea you have the power of you. You probably get your weed from the same person with much regularity. It's because you get better value for the money and the quality is on point right? Capitalist.
The real issue here is personal responsibility. The car company isn't misrepresenting itself or making any false pretense for why they are doing what they are doing. If they were, I'd be fighting the good fight with you. They are trying to associate their brand with good times. I'm not buying their products. I'm not paying to get in to their shows. I would pay to get into the shows though if I had money to do so. Yea. They are putting money up for the show and deserve to make that money back like any other promoter throwing a party would be trying to do. I don't care who they are. All that matters is value for the money for me. If I am in a place with my friends, listening to the music I like and drinking the beer I like, nothing else matters in that moment. I'll wash the taste out of my mouth when I get home. Life is too short for me to sit and be bothered that some guy I don't like is throwing the party.

lol, TOYOTA made it "cool" to be eco friendly?Set Records wrote: Wanna talk about emissions, talk about the first hybrid car to be mass marketed being made by Toyota. They were ahead of the game. They've made it cool to be eco friendly. It's trendy now.
their PR HAS worked on you.
you associate toyota with cool & trendy.
lol.
dude, toyota is OKAY when it comes to the environment, not the worst, but still, by no stretch of the imagination did TOYOTA make it cool to be eco friendly.
the automobile industry & its partner the oil industry are anything but eco friendly.
replace emissions with dubstep in what i quoted and peep their game.
I appreciate what human? is trying to hint at and bring to light. That's all it is, guys, trying. Exercising the right to discuss, and hoping to hit someone reading but maybe not commenting with something that spurs a google search (sigil, what's that, google it and who knows where you end up) or a thought about corporate inter-connectivity and the state of personal freedom or whatever.
It's good to have someone nudging the conversation with those thoughts and intentions on dubstepforum because dubstep has beeen, and for the moment more or less remains, an underground, antagonistic, and future-forward culture (the industry term for 'us' is 'early adopter') so where we go, the herds follow tomorrow, or next month, or next year, or so goes the logic.
And Snoop Dogg already bears it out.
Personally, because I am not really playing the role of trickster in this chapter of my life, I am more on the don't-give-a-fuck side of things. The reason Scion is into dubstep is because there is a diehard dubstep HEAD working for them. There are a bunch of people at the Scion office, or their ad agency, or their marketing team, who were raving in '95, and clubbing since 2000. WE are THEM. Or we become them, some of us, somewhere along the line. We are, as a population, web designers, programmers, graphic designers, sound engineers, promoters (sales people!), events marketers/managers, some of us are even good at finding and investing cash for a variety of reasons. And those of us who aren't artists consume the art created by those who are.
So thanks Scion, for making a very few of the parties I'll hit this year free. It helps me spend more money at the bar. And you guys know that like, 1 out of every 100000 New Yorkers owns a car, and I'm NEVER gonna be one, right?
Cool.

GM actually produced the first mass-marketable ELECTRIC CAR with almost ZERO EMISSIONS back in 2000 i believe . they stopped making it soon after for unexplained reasons, and then the talk about hydrogen fuel cells became more prevalent

I just crushed a massive fucking centipede that was crawling across my ceiling using one of those shitty Scion promo CDs they give out at shows. Guts everywhere. Scion's dubstep involvement has directly contributed to my benefit at the moment.

Anyway, the reason that there hasn't been the demand is because there hasn't been the demand for them. If the people don't stop buying the vehicles and make the companies suffer, they will do what they want. I think that people complaining about Free Markets should spend more time learning how they work and what their position of dominance as a consumer is in those markets. Consumers drive the market with their buying power. 1 lost sale is thousands of pounds/dollars.
