Me & my mate almost watched this on a comedown the other night. So glad i didn't. It seriously hard-hitting. One of those films that stays with you for a while. It carries such a stark message it almost seems like properganda. But it's brilliant and and soundtrack's just as good.

Also, watched the whole grindhouse with the trailers as Tarantino and Rodriguez intended it to be seen... fuckin a, planet terror is immense!

Saw it last night. Can't get it out of my head.
Exhausting, unrelentingly grim and depressing - I wouldn't say it was great fun to watch but I'm very glad I have seen it.
A great antidote to Scarface/Goodfellas/etc.

Lucky Number Slevin - Really enjoyed it, Josh Harnett was brilliant. Dark ending. Would recommend to all.
Donnie Brasco - watched it the other night (very late i know), big big film. Johnny Depp and Al Pachino, 2 of the best actors ever. Watch it if you already havent.
Been watching Hong Kong gangster films recently aswell.
Election - really liked it, very good side characters. Ending wasnt all too great, but an enjoyable film nonetheless.
Election 2 - sequel focused on one of the better characters in the first film, but in true sequal fashion it didnt live up to its predecessor.
Cheung Fo (aka The Mission) - Clever film, with brilliant cast. Thoroughly enjoyed and would recommend to anyone.

One of my favourite movies of all time there. So well written and with career-best performances from the main cast. And I disagree about the ending! I thought it was perfect: pointed, ironic, and bitter - just like the rest of the film!

It caught me off guard, but I didnt like it. The scene in the second film when Kun asks him the say question when they are both fishing, the look on Lok's face is priceless.
Been trying find some more Johnnie To films, Fulltime Killer & Throwdown have been recommended to me, have you seen any of them?

Fire Walk With Me is criminally under-rated! Yes, it's self-indulgent and most of it doesn't make much sense but it is CREEPY AS HELL. The stuff of nightmares, for sure.

Without words, cameras show us the world, with an emphasis not on "where," but on "what's there." It begins with morning, natural landscapes and people at prayer: volcanoes, water falls, veldts, and forests; several hundred monks do a monkey chant. Indigenous peoples apply body paint; whole villages dance. The film moves to destruction of nature via logging, blasting, and strip mining. Images of poverty, rapid urban life, and factories give way to war, concentration camps, and mass graves. Ancient ruins come into view, and then a sacred river where pilgrims bathe and funeral pyres burn. Prayer and nature return. A monk rings a huge bell; stars wheel across the sky
A movie with no conventional plot: merely a collection of expertly photographed scenes

gomorra - really good. like ed said, can't say it was particularly fun to watch (due to graphic violence etc.), but an excellent film nonetheless.
very keen to see 'hunger', film4 films are normally sick
