Fuck session view just drag and drop them into arrangement view and arrange them from there :6:

Also this.

I tend to use Session for the first few bits of a track, just getting my basic percussion and melody down, then I move over to arrangement and write from there.

I can see how session would be useful for live performances, but for writing a song, I think arrangement is much easier (for me)

personally i'm all about getting the major parts of the track done in session view, in fact the more i can get done there the better. i'll usually record an arrangement when the track is 50/60% done. although this is in general, some tracks i've done exclusively on the arrange page because it made more sense to do it that way.

i'm :u: though cos i just found out today that my laptop is fucked beyond economical repair so no ableton  i've got it installed on gf's computer though so at least when i move in with her i can work on it there but her computer is underpowered in comparison to my laptop.

you guys wouldn't believe the ballache i'm going through currently to make music, a mate lent me her 7yr old laptop with a measly 256mb of ram so i have to install linux and use hyrogen + ardour to make stuff. going from arguably the greatest music software in the world to that is so wank.

New question:

can you somehow make your pitchbend data visible / editable? same thing with modwheel, aftertouch, ...
when i play notes on my midi keyboard i find that ableton records all these parameters, but they are
nowhere to be found. so if i record these i have to be 100% perfect because i can't finetune anything..
which is quite annoying!

been searching for a solution for this a long time. seems strange to me, because i can find all kinds of
recorded automation, but never the pitchbend, aftertouch or modwheel - data

would be nice if someone knew how to edit it / make it visible in ableton!

i've been messin around with automation envelopes and had no luck :/ i have no idea
right click "copy envelope"

you may have to click the + button to add it to its own lane so you can copy just the automation.

works even between different plugins as well, so you could use the same timing on a cutoff lfo with a panning/gate effect as well

Haven't tried it yet, but I think you win. Thank you much. This was easy in cubase, but since Ableton I've been fucking around drawing everything by hand, trying to mimic the original. Which is wack. Rough enough getting the first one perfect, assuming you've got some complex wobblin'.

Wait! No! it only gives me clear envelope, remove automation lane, add lane for each automated envelope, etc. NO copy envelope. Which, would've made sense. Ableton's usually so logical. WHAT AM I MISSING. :u:

Add an extra lane then highlight the automation then copy it

No love. don't know why. I've seen it pop up with copy envelope, (never paste, which you think would be useful) but not usually. And even now, as I add a new lane, highlight my automation, and right click, no mention of doing ANYTHING to an envelope. weeeeird

Then why not just ctrl/Apple c it? If that doesn't work then I don't know what to tell you.

Anyone have any idea why some of my music library shows up in Ableton and some does not? For example De-Loused in the Comatorium by The Mars Volta shows up fine, but the Frances the Mute album only shows as having the album cover jpeg. The problem is not just that the files are protected or whatever - they flat out do not show up in the library. Any ideas?

check file properties for any abnormalities
update quicktime
last resort convert them in audacity and save them in a new folder

Does anyone know where the cheapest place to get Albeton 8 is? I'm not arsed about the suite as I rarely use the plugins, but sick of little glitches n freezes. Also is it like FL Studio where you buy it and get free updates for life?

find a student and get them to buy it cos they do a educational discount http://www.ableton.com/pages/education/ ... s/personal
although if i was you i would get the suite and spend some time with operator, it's sick.

unfortunately ableton isn't like FL in the respect you buy it once and get every new version for free, in fact FL is unique cos all the other major players (cubase, sonar, reason, logic) will charge you for the new version although they do give discounted deals to current customers.

@ The people trying to copy automation, try right clicking anywhere on a automation track in arrangement view an uncheck the 'lock envelopes' setting, This will copy all the automation from one midi clip to another, it might help your problem?!?!

Anyone here have problems with the free TAL plugins http://kunz.corrupt.ch/ ? I keep seeing them recommended but upon downloading them and unzipping into my plugins folder ableton will not show them! I have many other plugins which ableton works fine... Any ideas or similar problems?

TAL all work fine in mine (8.15, PC).

Not good news but it means it should work.

How do I route the LFO to the cutoff in the Operator? It's routed to pitch and I've tried just about everything, and can't find it in the manual.

when you click on the LFO in the middle section towards the right there is the A,B,C,D and filter that you can highlight/turn off.
