Re: Gear lust
Yeah that thread's great. I mean I guess if you really want a piece of gear and all the ones on ebay are all from the same guy charging 3x as much as it should cost, you really have no choice. He drives the prices up on gear so some people probably don't even know they're being swindled. It's usually pretty slutty gear too so it's sensible to assume his customers don't mind paying a bit extra to get the gear they want.
It's a smart game that he plays really. When a rare piece of gear gets popular, buy up all the ones on ebay and relist them for higher. Pretty solid investment if you've got the money to back it. You know it's high end gear so people have the money to spend, and if it's being fetishized people will pay anything if you've got a monopoly.

For other reasons I went to the bank to ask about getting a personal loan. Seriously considered trying to beat him at his own game.SunkLo wrote:Yeah that thread's great. Yeah you could actually just be the middleman to flower pot dude. You'd know you'd always have a buyer cause he'd just snatch up all your merch and mark it up even higher.
We need to set up a ninja ebay ring or some shit. I've always wondered if those sample packs aimed at noobs sell. The ones like "Super Sounds Pro! Over 5000 Sounds! No Other Sound Pack on Ebay Has as Many Genres as Super Sounds Pro! Make Your Very Own Pro Quality Rap Beats, Hip Hop Beats, Instrumental Hip Hop Beats, Trip Hop Beats, Trap Beats, Glitch Hop Beats, Crunk Beats, Boom Bap Beats, Beats Beats, And MANY MORE!!!" You could just cut a bunch of hits out of Dre songs and then say pros like Dr Dre use your samples. Tag the living shit out of it with any relevant terms and I bet you'd get some hits from overzealous noobs trying to buy shit to be pro. 15 bucks a pack or some shit would be a no brainer to someone who has no clue about sampling and doesn't know how/want to invest effort in collecting their own samples. If they're buying a Maschine or something off ebay, why not tack on another sample pack for some pro sounds right out of the box. I mean shit it even says pro right in the name!
You could probably do the same with massive patches too. Just scroll through the default patches, tweak several things, save preset as, repeat.
Ultra grease, but hey. If you're going to exploit someone, it might as well be noobs. I'm sure there's lots of people who would rather pay 15 bucks than scour forums and freesound.org for snare hits.
You could also do it legit, like make an ultra dope sample pack with quality over quantity and sell it. Another thing I thought of was Max4Live patches, there's potential to sell those, although admittedly that niche is a lot smaller than noobs looking for shortcuts

The microgranny is cool but I cant immediately imagine how it fits into my setup. Its more that it is super cool lil box...nowaysj wrote:Yeah, beyond belief...

How you liking Gesit? It always looked badass...but I just always do drums in Maschine...I know you kind of bailed on Maschine after 2.0 came out...

I've been on them since the MusikMesse video came out, glad it took me this long TBH, given all the other stuff I've bought recentlyfragments wrote:Totes jelly of your microgranny purchase wub ; p

Thinking about it, it's basically a hardware version of FL Granulizer with different sample bank functionality. Should fit in great with the setup

Might even get round to doing a new track, you never know

Re: Gear lust
Dude, I can definitely imagine it in my setup. Love the small footprint, right next to the 404, I imagine shit bouncing back and forth between the two.fragments wrote:The microgranny is cool but I cant immediately imagine how it fits into my setup. Got it in the mail last night, universe conspired to prevent me from installing it. Am going to do it now after I do two weeks of TUNA! feedback. I have some experience with Guru, the prior incarnation of this product, and really really liked it, but didn't really know what I was about at the time. I do think Geist covers a lot of the same territory as Maschine. I still don't have 7 on my production pc, so maschine has been out of my loop. I do use it on my laptop occasionally, but it is such a heavy application, I can't do much on my lappy, and it is a decently spec'ed lappy, as well. ALSO Geist is so much better designed in my opinion. The information architecture, user interface. It is just so much easier to use. So many hidden functions on maschine 2.0. I really think they kind of stepped backwards a bit. Maybe to encourage the purchase of next gen maschine controllers... Really can't stand how maschine handles audio files, trying to lock them up ostensibly to protect their content. Fuck that. Open Open Open. Guru you resample, that resampled audio is a file, you can save it into your working directory, or into a sample library just lickety split.fragments wrote:How you liking Gesit? But I did demo Geist, and got along with it nicely. I'm really looking for, like, a virtual version of a 404. I started to learn reaktor to build something like a 404 in there, with some modifications, but that road is long, and if I can get it off the shelf with Geist for $50 delivered... I'll got that way.

But wub, throw up some sounds made when you molest that granny.

Hmm, well the roland is going for a huge sum, much more than any others recently, so thats gone. The cathedral sound very nice.
Cant believe im so out the loop on guitar pedals, they were always generally shit when i last used hardware. amazing now, even the mooer stuff sounds great for pennies...

Re: Gear lust
@nowasj: Glad Geist is working out for you. Maybe it's because I'm just not a very advanced user or something, but I've never had any issues with Maschine. Depending on what I am doing sometimes I just use the software LOL. I know that is a bummer about Windows 7, but maybe you will find it as all worth it since it lead you to Geist.
@paradigm x: I am a huge EHX fanboy even though I don't even play an instrument. I have owned a Memory Man delay, Holy Stain and one of their tube pedals...the LPB2 or something. Unfortunately I ended up selling them because poverty and I suck with money. But I hoping to get one of their delays or reverbs again someday.
Once I get off my lazy ass, finishing writing this album review, and rewatching some Deadwood I am going to do a demo of the MicroBrute + that Zoom MultiStomp. Will post results.

Not trying to be nationalist or racist, but I've never liked any kind of German engineering. It all always seems backwards to me. Designer centered, rather than user centered.
Anyway, I just got to use my optical drive for the first time in a year or two!

Some cool shit on here. I want the 8-bit thingy that is the size of a cassette...but it runs on goofy, expensive watch batteries : (wub wrote:Also, found this the other day and thought it might interest for fans of noise synths;
