Re: Working Out....
I would guess that it's easier to gauge progress (personal bests etc) in the gym than it is on the field. I like to know that i'm getting somewhere rather than 'wooo! We beat that team'.
I definitely agree that working out in a sporting context is more fun but i.m never in the same place for more than a few months at a time so a gym is always convenient for me.

Re: Working Out....
I certainly don't gauge my progress by the 'woo!!!' scale.
No balls cross my goal line.
If I am out of breath after a few frantic saves, I'm needing to get fitter.
I guess it's all just down to personal preference.
It's not an issue for me to push myself but it's easier to push myself whilst being competitive.

Re: Working Out....
I didn't mean to say that the 'woo' scale (lol) is the only way for you to gauge your progress, just that I like having hard data rather than just feeling fitter/not as fit. I treat the whole process like a scientific experiment so the more accurate my data the better.
Re: Working Out....
what do you get your protein from?
i eat tofu every other night, or soya mince. a lot of nuts too.. but still very skinny.

Re: Working Out....
Always had pretty strong legs, even in pre-gym days, so I'd have to go properly ham on upper body to get the johnny bravo look some breddas have.
Going to the gym in season has been absolutely horrible, so hard just to keep up the same level of fitness. Don't really enjoy going to the gym just to keep shit up, so will be glad when the season's over. At 82 kg now, want to get to 88/90 kg by january. Put on weight so easy last time (not just fat!) went from 68 kg (used to go running/cycling loads) to 84 kg in about 3/4 months.
Before that, I used to play football, and pretty much just went to the gym to keep what I did have strong, and to keep fit, no bulking or anything.
Coming to the end of my first full season of american football (had a few training sessions towards the end of last season). Never been through something so physically demanding.Electric_Head wrote:So are any of you sporty?
Or is working out your sport?
The reason I ask is because as some of you may be aware I'm a hockey goalkeeper.
I love hockey and use it as my source of fitness and exercise.
I can't stand working out in a gym or lifting weights for eg.
Give me a cricket ball and a net to bowl into, give me a hockey stick and a ball, I'll be set for good.

If you're skinny you just have increase your calorie intake. Where the calories come from isn't an issue.
If eating a lot is a problem for you then eat calorie dense food.
If it's lean muscle mass your after then ask Gen.
Edited because of bullshit/bad advice/new evidence has come to light/ etc.

Re: Working Out....
Are you Buddhist, IIRC?
Re: Working Out....
fair.
i try and only buy organic soy based stuff, but quorn is in there too. not too fussed for gaining weight.
been hitting the gym pretty much 3x a week for the past year and a half and there had been major improvements in my shape and size; just wondered what a fellow non meat eater had in his diet.
i don't really eat eggs as i find them repulsive.
